well, yeah. but that would indicate you already own the 15 consoles and a ton of cartridges. which, i am constantly getting closer to!

That is an awesome controller, although I have to use 2 fingers on the A button or it gets slightly jammed and won't come up immediately. I need to dig mine out and put my NES back together sometime.

PS3: Yea it looks good, but are the games good? The PS3 has SEGA Genesis syndrome. This might get corrected in the near future though.

I used to be an exclusive PC gamer, but now that I depend on a PC for work, I just don't want to sit in front of one anymore. The couch in front of the consoles is far more comfy. I've still got a pile of games I enjoy, though, so I've been refurbishing an old laptop to handle them.

there is nothing quite like picking the game from the shelf, feeling the cartridge in your hand, placing it in the console, and playing it the way it was meant to be played!

AMEN! I used to have a few NES/Genesis emulators on my PC. They're one of the reasons I've acquired both consoles. I enjoy the feel of the controller so much more. Not to mention my TV is much bigger than my monitor. lol


Still, though, there are some games exclusive to PC that I do enjoy: Caesar III, Heroes of M&M, Starship Titanic, X-Files. Of course, these are all older games, so I can run '98 on my laptop and play them just fine.

To me, it's all about the games. The problem is, is that the VAST majority of the good ones were made ~20 years ago.
Here's how I can put it:
I can name maybe a good list of maybe 10 games that I can say, yeah, were really good games on consoles starting with "Round one" of next gen (gamecube, xbox, ps2 and up).
However, I can tell you with ease tons games from SNES and NES that were incredible. GBA had some good hits too, don't ignore that one.
Sadly, games nowadays really aren't good. And with this whole shift in the "gamer" market, we're just going downward and downward as the community continues to expand as it is. The whole "gamer market" is an entire story on its own... what a depressing sight. Anyway...

It would be great, for one day, if we could all go back the the l33t times before my age where PC's had a huge dominant force in the gaming community and Mario wasn't out fighting Gordon freeman for the dollar. Consoles existed, great games were made. PC's existed, same happened. They co-existed beautifully. But as soon as we get the xbox, the "Hybrid" of the two, it was the GAMES that suffered most, and the downward spiral began.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only console sitting atop my desk is an NES, and just below it, the SNES. With the best library of games of all time, combined with a decent computer fitted for the age, I'm all set. Bring on the games!

I agree completely: 15 consoles and a ton of cartridges beats the bantha poodoo out of a badass computer.

HBN: ROMs are illegal in the US, whether you own the original game or not. I'm not saying it makes sense, but that's the law in the US. But: Will Nintendo sue you for having a Contra ROM? Probably not.

No one thinks its fair. Even worse is stuff like DVDs, it is technically illegal to rip it and convert it to use on your ipod/psp/whatever.

I'd love to agree with some of you about PC, and turn to the dark side, but I can't. I've tried playing N64 ROMs on my computer before, it just doesn't work when you are missing polygons and you can't use the original controller. Consoles give you the original look and feel/b], something that PCs can't really do. And the closest way to get the feel on PCs would be to have the console's controller made into a USB.

Really I think this discussion was done and decided before it even stared. When you consider that Ben has sold dozens of VCSp to people for hundreds of dollars, when really they could have just as easily picked up a GBA/DS/PSP and emulated them on it. Best parallel would be comparing an VW Bettle (original) to the new one, it looks the same but I'm sure it feels different on the road, handles different and brakes different. It's just not hte same.

Being serious now: Maybe build a shed for it all? Climate controlled, obviously. Can't have all that sensitive equipment getting to hot/cold/damp.

I'd really like it if they could get more games that area nice marriage of both. Because in the old days they had to have good stories, because they couldn't do hi-res graphics.

I agree 100%. I like the nice-looking graphics of the newer games, but the originality of, say, Zelda (the original NES version) was incredible. Combine some of that originality with the amazing graphics power of one of the newer consoles and you'd have a definite winner.

As to emulators vs original system, emulators are nice for portability because I can put NES, SNES, PSX, Atari, etc. emulators on my PSP and be able to enjoy them without separate consoles/portables. However, as far as actually playing the games, it's much better on the original system. There's just something more satisfying about having to blow on a NES cartridge multiple times to get it to work... Not to mention the controls aren't all goofy because they've been remapped to another controller (i.e. NES on my PSP: it's kinda odd having X and O being A and B, the start/select buttons are in the wrong place, and THERE'S NO ORANGE PLASTIC GUN FOR DUCK HUNT)

Hmm...Now I'm really tempted to make a portable NES...

It's all about the nes, snes, and genesis. Oh, and atari can come too.
