I don't know much about the connections and stuff on a SNES, but color coding on diagrams helps a lot.

Why is your ground hooked up to the voltage out on that 7805?

in the book it read that the ground/negative battery lead of the 7805 was the middle pin, and the last pin(from left to right) was the pin to connect to the snes and the 1st pin was where to hook the positive battery... or is that wrong? maybe its just the crappy paint diagram

Oh and i labeled the diagram above, that should help out

The line going from the battery's negative terminal to the 7805 on the screen's board should not be there. Eliminate that. Aside from that I believe you have it 100%.

ok so im using a screen without the led mod and using the wall power source, i connected the 3 pins together on the back lower side and hooked in the a/v points. i took them to my snes mini and have the 7805 wired correctly as bens book says(with proper ground spot) with 5 C batteries (1.5v each). i cant seem to get any a/v out of it, what am i missing? do i need a proper ground from the snes to the screen? i tried the ground spot on the front of the psone screen to the left of the lcd and it still wont work... any ideas would be great

Yes, you most certainly have to connect the ground from the SNES to ground on the screen or else it won't work. You have to connect ground for everything.

There's my diagram from way back, it has the controller connections, if you're just wiring controller to board.(correct colors of the 5 wires too :D)
SNESp - 100%
Protable X - 15% - I need money :(

thanks for that info, that actually was the color coding diagram i was referring to. re-found it earlier today, very useful. cut the controller into 3 sections(directionals , start and select, x-y-a-b) and reconnected the flat wires or w/e there called, works perfect. very tedious soldering though and really surprised i managed it on my 1st try. now just need to relocate the cart slot and mount it in my case.
