what sort of switch do you use? A STSP seems to be the logical choice to me. Did you put it in line with the power to the LCD or what?
I used an on/off or what you called a sp/st switch. Though I used it to turn the "jump the thingy" mod on and off, but it could easily be adapted to turn on/off the backlight or whatever you want.

what way do i wire in the 22 ohm resistor? w/ the gold end facing the light or the power?
