Underclock it instead, to get more bass. (Since you'll reach one octave lower) Ideally youo should make a switch so you can choose which crystal you want to use.
I'd personally say overclock it. Then you can play through games faster. Like instead of burning away your life walking from place to place on Pokemon, you can walk as fast as you can ride the bike, and the bike is way fast. I've never felt the need to get the bass thumpin while playing Pokemon or any other GB game.
You should totally drill some holes in the GBC and mount the RCA connectors on the system..
I was going to Until I realized that I would have to open it again for the over/under clocking. Right now the wire is coming through where the power switch is. I have to use a screw driver to turn it on.

I salvaged mine from some dead stuff I had. GBC has a ~8MHz crystal in it, I put a ~14MHz one in mine, about 1.75x speed. About as fast as you can get and still be playable.

T1 is the placemark for the clock signal in the game gear. It's also connected to pin 40 (I think that's the right number) of the cart slot. Well that clock is what the GG runs off and is the same used in video encoders- it's a 3.58MHz signal. This signal gets fed into the GG's Z80, named 84C00AM-6. Pin 6 of that chip is the 3.58MHz clock signal input.
All you have to do is cut the trace between T1/clock and pin 6 of the 84C00AM-6 chip. Then input your own, higher clock. Here are my test results so far:
4MHz: Perfect, all games run smoother with no glitching (so far)
5.0688MHz: Most run great (sonic) with very minor glitching (barely noticeable in fact). However, sprite intesive games (GG Aleste II and other shooters I presume) have a lot more glitching.
6MHz: Glitching everywhere, you really can't enjoy any game.
If anyone's interested I can take pics to show how to do the mod. I'll also try to keep this thread updated with test results.

If what i'm reading is correct then the crystal is slower than the gbc crystal so I guess right now it will just be underclocked. This came from the sms power forums.
UPDATE: I tried to remove the piece and the top half came off and I can't get the bottom to come off.
