stared snes portable

Post by egoo33 »

well after quite a while surfing the net and getting all the odds and ends and little do dads i have finally begun my adventure into the great unknown with the ben heck book and this forum as my guide. I got my mini snes open and started taking apart stuff and have a quick question, i took out the 7805 but unfortunately some parts of the pins are still stuck. I couldn't get a clean break so the pins were left sticking out of the bottom. I managed to get them out from the top and the bottom but there still in the middle which you cant see. I don't know if that makes any sense but the best way i can describe it. Will this in any way hinder my progress. Also, in the book where it says remove to 2 dark gray tabs on either side of the cartridge slot i don't quite understand it. Do i just rip off those 2 tabs, the entire cartridge slot? Once again please excuse my ignorance and all of your help is much appreciated, thanks in advance

as long as the leads aren't touching/connected to each-other, from your old 7805, it wont make any difference. just go ahead and solder through/around them and you'll be fine. as for the cart slot, yes its the little tabs on the ends that extends the cart slot about an extra inch. i personally used a hacksaw to take mine off, i don't like the whole rip it apart idea.

sounds good but i ran into another snag where the new 7805 is suppose to go in the area around j2. I still have a little leg stuck in there from the previous hardware and can't get it out for the life of me. My board is scuffed up and i am hoping that everything will still go. I have little legs left over from a bunch of parts that i have been taking apart and am getting seriously frustrated trying the remove them. No matter what i try to do they end up still stuck in the middle or bottom. I am almost at my wits end and need some help. Also, since i have this post up i am not sure about the wiring of the 7805 looking at it from the book. When he says but to into 2 and 3 into another region that is well beyond reaching. Excuse me ignorance please

You're still not making much sense. I usually connect things with wire, if that's what you're asking.

Are you saying that you just ripped the components out of the board? If you would have desoldered them it wouldn't be a problem.

If you would post a picture of what you are having a problem with, it would solve a whole lot of problems for the reader. You really aren't explaining yourself very well.

How are you desoldering these? Are you using anything to get rid of the old solder, or are you just warming it back up and trying to get everything out before it sets?

so that would mean you didn't get all the excess solder. if you truly get it all, the components will just wiggle free. try using your desoldering iron to get the rest of the solder off and just take the the rest of the components out.
they call me the Queen of Bondo, though maybe i should be called the Queen of Epoxy Putty
