Khaag- Thanks for the warning. Maybe I'll just trim the unneccessaries off the board. At the moment, space isn't really an issue, I'd just like things to be as small as possible.




I wasn't planning on having much to update on since I'm primarily occupied with my job on the weekend, but I did score big today! I don't know if this has come across, but I'm pretty much tackling this without a plan. (lol! Portable Nintendo!1!!1 I want!) I also don't have much money. I'd been considering using Sony 7.4V infolithiums, as I already have four and a charger.

Well, this morning, I got paid for a funeral, and it was more than usual. I decided to head up to Rat Shak and do some research into other batteries. For the first time I can remember, I got a sales associate who actually had some idea as to what she was doing. For $6, I got a 7.2V 2000mAh battery, a 9.6V 1000mAh battery, and a dual charger. Both Ni-Cd, and both common power tool voltages, if I decide I want more batteries.

So either way now, I'm covered. If I can get the NOAC working on the 7.2V, I have a little over two hours of play time. If I can't, I just add another voltage regulator to the screen, and I only get about an hour of play time. In either case, how do I go wrong for $6? Well, $12, actually. They had two sets, so I bought them both. :mrgreen:

I see a 7805-- your good with the 7.2volts

Also, get the 9.6V 1600 mAh NIMH battery if you get one of those.

I have a question about this project for all you experienced modders out there. I've been plugging away at this project, and while I haven't fried anything, I have another problem. I started out by cleaning the old holes from the original crap ribbon cable and soldering new cables to those same contacts. Now, the traces are lifting and peeling away from the board. I've tried several times to scrape down to the bare copper and make my connection there, but the trace just lifts again, and peels off further. Is this the point where I consider myself in the hole for $15 and get a new NOAC? Please let me know.

It sounds to me like you used too much heat or held the heat on too long.

It's only a 25W iron. I think a lot of others here are using 30-45W.

In any case, I'm still wondering if anything can be salvaged, or if I need a new unit.

hmm... did you try "threading" the wire through the holes that the ribbon cable was originally attached to? and then soldering them on the back side...? i don't remember what the noac you're working with looks like... but this is how i replaced the crappy ribbon cable for the retro duo...

That was the first time. I just touched them with the tip of the iron, just long enough for the solder to take. Everything checked out with the multimeter, but when I came back a few days later, the traces were lifting. I guess I'd better start saving some $$$. For the price of a better NES emulator, I could do a dual system.

wow... i've never seen anything like that...

umm... i think you may need to buy a new noac. unless you can get one of those trace pens and put the traces back down...

Get a familyboy XPG. There very good and strong. I friend mine with a 2 wire a/c and dark fog came out of it, I waited a few days and it was fine. Plus its very small and only around 20 bucks. :wink:

Yeeeaaaaahhh, well, I'm either going for a Retro Duo or a GN twin. I've already decided I want a 2-in-1 portable.

Well, I suppose since this project isn't going anywhere anymore, I can reveal my witty (I thought so, anyway) name: Portably Engineered Emulator of a Nintendo Entertainment System.

Sadly for you, it's not an emulator, it's just a similarly constructed processor, similar to how many use a 68010 in a genesis where there should be a 68000.
