About the DevCast forum

Post by benheck »

I have deleted it. Also I checked - Black Six, whom I think was the first mod, WAS actually set as an administrator. That has been fixed now.

Does Black Six even post anymore? I don't recall seeing him much. Anyway, hopefully this rules out hacking and please Black Six, only I should be creating new forums. Otherwise this place might become a mess.

Black Six said he didn't make it. There are some security problems with this version of phpbb anyways, so I would recommend you updating anyways :)

First back up the forum (there is a section where you can do that under the admin panel)
Then upload an unzipped copy of the new phpbb software to a different folder on the site. When you set it up select Upgrade instead of Install :)
If everything looks and works nice, replace the old files with the new ones

Yeah, he does post every so often, and I can talk with him on AIM (though I don't very often) He said that he did NOT make it. Also, you set him as an admin, I remember asking him about it :)

One other thing, if you made him a plain old moderator, you should reinstate him as a mod on the trading post and the book forum and make me a mod while you're at it :P

New Site Management

Hello there, portable fans! It's me, Ben. I am bringing on some new people to help update the site so the content can be fresh as the morning breeze! I will try to add my 2 cents worth every now and then, and maybe even sneak some new systems in eventually!

In the meantime I will be working on my movie, so, I guess, wish me luck and stuff. Fear not, there WILL be an Atari in the film! If there's anyone in the southern area of Wisconsin willing to help with that project, let me know!

So, the next update that comes down the pike will probably be from one of the new people. Stay tuned!
So, who were these people? Could it be one of them?

Ben didn't I send you a pm about some of the security holes some time ago?
Whith this version you can use a hack that lets you see any users md5 hash. Then you could use a huge wordlist with number combination and try to crack it. I have done this and it works here. Should i show you proof?
I didn't make the Devcast board but someone else could have.
Sorry Please don't ban me

Uh, yeah... The forum software needs updating, but there shouldnt be any hacking to prove a point. Though if you want to crack a md5 hash go right ahead and try this:

If you can get that Ill be impressed.

you just had to ask us to try :P
Depending on how fast the bruteforcer is it might take a few weeks to crack though :)

unless you use a dictionary attack (only takes minutes) although there isn't a 100% certainty you'll be able to crack it.

Yes Ben, I'm here. Like I posted in the other two threads about the Devcast fourm, I did NOT start it. While I don't post that often, I check the boards at least twice a day, and as SpongeBuell said, if you're going to make me just a Moderator, instead of an Admin like before, could you make me a Moderator of all the forums? Thanks.
