PS2 Laptop

Post by bchs10 »

I was thinking of taking a PS2 slim, gutting it and putting it into a laptop like case with around a 12 inch screen, and slipping in a keyboard. While I know this will not be an easy project, I have been wanting to do this for some time now. I was wondering if someone could give me a rough estimate on a price?

Well you can get a new slim for around $100. The only place I could think of to find an easily hackable 12" screen would be a portable dvd player and that would run you $150-$250. Keyboard $15 maybe... I don't really know what you had planned for the laptop case but depending on the material, they can get expensive. This definitely would not be an easy project by any means. I've never ripped apart a slim, but they are pretty compact to begin with.

I don't have much experience yet, but I'm sure some others have some good advice to set you in the right direction.

I've heard some real horror stories about the PSNew (PS2 slim) being a real POS. Is there any truth behind this?

I think its relevant here, because we want bchs10to have the best equipment possible. Even if it sacrifices size a bit.

Once you tear them down, from what I understand, the sizes aren't that different. The drives a bit thicker, but beyond that its not much. Please correct me if I'm wrong in this.

As for cost, well other than batteries, WhatULive4 covered it pretty cleanly. You also should figure to spend it all twice. Just incase you have a full meltdown and fry everything. Chances of that happening arent very high, but it CAN happen. So plan for it.

I was stupid. I didn't plan for crap. Now I'm broke, and can't continue on my project until I get some cash. Granted, theres nothing wrong with that, but I recommend avoiding it.
Please keep an eye on my HBN64 progress.
