A 2nd Book for Ben?

Post by Pass »

I was just wondering if anyone else thinks that it would be a good idea for ben to write a followup to his first book. Not that i would neccessarily purchase it right away, because i juist received his first book a mere day ago, but i think it would be a good thing for many people on this site, who have already done nes, and snes, and ps. Maybe a book with a gamecube portable, a ps2 portable, and maybe even a noac portable. Idk, you guys may think this is a dumb idea, and yah idc if i'm a noob but heh i figured i'd speak my mind. Oh and goodjob ben with the first book, i've been reading like mad, and the little bits of humor and sarcasm are what sometimes keep me going when i was just about to put it down for the night.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. This should be in the book section. Please move it. I'm retarded.

This has been discussed before (a long while back) and I think the general consensus was that if you're able to finish the stuff in Ben's book, then you'll probably have gained enough skill that you could tackle the next gen stuff.

But if he felt like writing one, I wouldn't stop him  I might even give him money for a copy.

Ben himself has said he is not interested in writing another book. In all honesty there isn't a whole lot that has to be added to his how-to guides that you can find on engadget.com.

Brian's point on most people that can do what he's outline in the book could do the next-gen console, it could be true. More skill is needed, but yeah I think so.

If anyone on the forums thinks that Ben should make a new book, good luck, Ben's a stubborn man (in the good way). The best way of a new book being written is as I'm mentioned before, if it's a collaberation between members here on the forums. Get two or more member and you can easily fill a book with how-tos about making other portables.

So read the postings in this forum. Look in the Screens section for details of how people hooked up the Hipgear screen, look in the SNES section for the FC Twin; look in Forum 42 and other places (inc N64 section) for soldering tips and general electronics. You could also read Ben's book, it is very interesting and tackles such things too.

I had no idea how to even solder before I came to this forum, I spent a lot of time researching old posts, learnt what I need, the rest is history.

On the subject of the book, as Life of Brian said, you can learn what you need to know from Ben's book, you can then build on your knowledge and make more complex systems yourself. There is no need for a second book, however if he did write one, I would buy that one too, as general interest reading.

Maybe not a technical book, but what about a novelization of Port Washington or Kings and Queens of Karaoke?

Hey, a book would initially be cheaper to produce than a movie... :?

But yeah, once you read through the book, you should be able to figure out what to do with the consoles it doesn't cover.
