If your parents are anything like my parents, they try to live their lives through their children. If you fail at something, then they feel like they are failures as parents. I'm sure she has good intentions, but she is probably just disappointed in herself because she thinks she is inadequate and couldn't raise a son that got straight A's and does all his homework.
Having some skills in electronics and soldering is good in my opinion. Later when you have a house it will come in handy if you can fix the lightswitch or the radio yourself, instead of calling some company ripping you off..
And I'm sure there are more situations where it will come in handy. So in my opinion it is constructive and educational.
Actually I can't think of a better hobby, than one that requires creativity and skill..

If you said that to me and I was your dad i'd kick the copulate out of you.soundwave wrote:Do something completely irrelevant to modding, simply to piss her off, then say "I'm either going to do this, or go back to modding, but either way you can suck my d***"
This is the way I'd go about it with my mom, but then again, after around 6-7 years of BS I don't leave many blanks to fill in with her.

I do stuff like that with my teachers, because quite frankly, I hate teachers that are anal. and because of me yelling at this assistant teacher, last week sucked for me big time.soundwave wrote:Do something completely irrelevant to modding, simply to piss her off, then say "I'm either going to do this, or go back to modding, but either way you can suck my d***"

One of my teacher in particular is anal about EVERYTHING, and one day I went off on her and dropped the F-bomb twice, and walked off to in school discipline, that was 2-3 weeks ago, now this week I JUST was told I have 2 detentions, and I fail to see why I should serve them if they are 2-3weeks old. Sadly I already signed the papers cuz either that or sit in ISD all day.
ok I am done ranting about my school
My father gave me his soldering iron and some parts he had when I first started doing this (He used to mod computers when he was younger and it was still relatively easy)
I can say that my parents are generally pretty supportive, though. Then again, I'm getting better at school (Two years ago my grades were literally twice as bad (Ds instead of Bs))
I don't get what your mothers problem is. I mean this is a much better hobby than PLAYING video games, learning-wise

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe instead of cursing out your teachers you could try to discuss things civilly with them, and if that fails go to the administration and complain? There's a system in order to solve problems, you just have to use it. Getting angry and pissed off and swearing at people won't fix anything.Jongamer wrote:I do stuff like that with my teachers, because quite frankly, I hate teachers that are anal. and because of me yelling at this assistant teacher, last week sucked for me big time.soundwave wrote:Do something completely irrelevant to modding, simply to piss her off, then say "I'm either going to do this, or go back to modding, but either way you can suck my d***"

When I was your sort of ages (years ago); in 1983 I was 17 and got into programming in Assembly Language on my MTX512. I tucked myself in my room for all my free time, programming. I told my parents it was helping me develop my logic and problem solving abilities. I suggest you do the same - modding as a way to develop your skills, present to your potential employer something concrete as a relevant and skilled hobby when you go for job interviews (better to say "I make X and here is my website" than "I like music"), expand your career chances; etc. That is how you sell it to your parents...
More or less the same for me. As long as it doesn't control my life and my grades are decent, they're ok with most stuff.Harshboy wrote:Am I the only one here that has parents that are nice and let me do whatever I want? (Okay, not whatever, I'm sure they're not fine with me doing drugs...but I don't do drugs...)
I guess it's because I get good grades in school...
