How much would you pay...

for a portable snes made with the mini snes. I'm talking on average like how much do these things go for? I'm thinking about making one as my first project, and i'm just wondering. It would be with a 5" hipgear screen. Thanks guys.

Depends on quality.

400 for good quality I would guess.

Wow thats amazing. I was guessing $250 max. If i do end up making mine, and the quality is good, i'll prolly sell it for $350ish. Although that won't be for a while because i don't even have ben's book yet. (It's coming tommorow my dad said.) Well anyways, thanks! Oh and how much would the other systems in ben's book go for if they were all pretty well made?

if your going with a 5" screen use a psone/zenith/verge LCD, they are one of the best quality 5" screens you can get reasonably cheap. and depending on looks build quality etc 200-400$ is reasonable, the one i am building is costing my buyer ~300, anything above that is bordering on overpriced unless you have incredible build quality and a fantastic design

I fail to see how it would cost $400 dollars:

screen- $40
Snes- $70 or fc twin about $60
controller- get 2 with it FREE
case - polycase FREE
paint and others - $50
Batteries - $20 for crap and $45 for good
misc electronic parts - $10
Other - $20

So, $210 for a mini snes and crap batteries
And $230 with good batteries

even if you screw up and fry a a snes it will only be $300.

And that is paying top dollar for everything

Labor. It's tough work building one of these. Basically, to estimate it, think of how long it would take. Multiply it by 3, and add 10%

yeah, most people dont like to hear that the higher quality one of a kind hand made portable videogame systems tend to cost a lot because it takes many hours of work to build a good looking one, if one of us were to charge the same ammount as say an auto body specialist for our work a snes portable would cost thousands (one of my dads friends does body work on classic cars for ~60$ an hour!) if you average it out, minus parts cost etc most of us make roughly minimum wage with all the time we have invested in it

Tough Work in what sense? As in hard work or mind melting tough. If anything its hard on your lungs!

Considering it's one of those things that not everyone can do, asking money for labor isn't uncalled for. I wouldn't say it's really difficult, but it does take a certain amount of know-how.

cutting, soldering, dremeling, bondoing, sanding, painting etc, working with hazardous chemicals and potentially dangerous tools etc! lol
