I don't think so unless power was already running threw the VMU...Also you might want to make sure your controller ports arn't blown.

Well from what I understand If you mess with a controller while the dreamcast is on or just messing with the insides it can blow your f1 resistor or something like that.

I've done the F1 resistor/fuse repair three times, on three different dreamcasts and it works. one of them I got from ebay for $7 cause the people thought it was broken. It was but not if you know how to fix it. A 10 ohm resistor will do the job. I have heard from somewhere (not sure where or who told me) that it is caused by third party controllers cause for some reason they have a greater tendency to short. Not sure if it's true but it is what I have heard.

Hey you simply have to swap the resistor labeled "F1" on the controller board (a fast-blow fuse in reality, the only resistor-like part on the controller port PCB) for a 10ohm resistor, and it'll be good. I fixed one of my DC this way and it still works well after 4 years. This problem happens with 3rd party controller or when you mess with a controller (genuine or 3rd party) while power is on, as LoyalistRevolt said.

hmm I wouldn't re plug your controllers(The one that caused this) in again...also watch out for those 3 third party controllers they really mess you up sega made it so the first party stuff is always the best...Happy it worked for you
