EA Sports plug n play a cartridge slot candidate?

As many of you know, Radica has made several Genesis plug n play games with licensed Sega games and controllers; However, Jakks Pacific also made a GOAC plug in play under the license of EA Sports with two sports games (NHL 95 and Madden 95). I came across one of these in a cheap mislabeled lot (I bought it for battle toads/double dragon and the A/V cable) and while the included games are OK (even though its impossible to score in hockey) I'd like to add a cartridge slot to it for a convenient portable Genesis. Has anyone put a cartridge slot on the Jakks Pacific version of the plug n play? Rather than having the controller and then a little box halfway down the cord, this is all contained in the controller itself (with a big box attached tumor style to the back of it). If anyone knows of a how-to from a previous cart slot add, let me know.

Join the Club. I have one of those too. And from what i have read around here. It's probly doesn't have a GOAC in it.

then what in god's name would it have? I opened it up and saw a glop top that looked very similar to the NES gloptop, and I KNOW this isn't an NOAC. And, even if it wasn't, you should still be able to add a cart slot as long as there is some sort of pinout to attach to.

I have one of the Genesis plug N Plays. I got the Sonic 2 one. I'm sure It wouldn't be too hard to portablize, but I'm not sure if it's possible to put a cart reader.

Ben's added a slot to the Radica plug n plays already, I'm asking if it can also be done on the EA version sold by Jakks Pacific since it appears to be a GOAC. I mean, what else could it be if it is playing a Genesis version of a game? I doubt they custom made a chip specifically to play the Genesis versions Madden 95 and NHL 95.

cliffs: people like to assume crap and no one is sure if its a GOAC or not because apparently there are only 2-3 people on this forum that know a damn thing about electrical circuits beyond soldering and they simply don't care to mess with it.

While definitely unlikely to be a one-off item, there are OEM solutions that are designed to be plugged into a TV easily that don't correspond to any home console. The games could be ported to one of those. Examples of such systems include the Mortal Kombat, and the Namco arcade Plug 'N Plays. I've lost the post (off Assembler Games forums maybe?) that listed what was what for a few P'NPs.

Both ended without resolution. If you feel like spending your time reverse-engineering it, go for it.

With the pinout for the Radica Red and Blue GOAC versions being known, and that there are now fairly compact high-compatibility clones (i.e. GN Twin) that have a cartridge slot already, I'm not sure how much time this would be worth putting into, unless you're doing it for the fun of reverse engineering.
