my snes/nes design stage

Post by newguy101 »

ok so i have an FC Twin and have already made the case shell from fiberglass(havent made cartridge slot or cut any holes in it) and just thought id post on my design stage

Image

image not to scale and have encased the bottom of the cart reader, the pins, in fiberglass so that when the reader is moving back and forth the wires wont only not tough, but fiberglass is crazy strong and wont weaken the solder points and have the detach. also so the wires from the bottom of the reader dont touch the metal on the nes reader and short out the system. (fiberglass is used on cars, mainly corvettes, and small boats so fairly strong as well as waterproof)

ive already relocated the snes cart reader, wired up the controller, and wired my screen for LEDs (second screen, fried the 1st one doh!) just have to put my audio/video to the screen and power it to batteries and make the actual sliding doohickey for the snes cart reader. im sure ill be needing some help in the future =)

So am I understanding it right... the SNES cart slot slides over the NES slot?

With that much movement, over time I am thinking the wires will break anyways. Not at the solder points, but probably right where they come out of the resin/fiberglass.

Also, how exactly do you plan on making it slide, be strong enough to take the abuse of putting the games in and out thousands of times, and still have enough room to insert your NES games.

Have you already tested to see if all your components fit? It seems to me like it is either going to be one massive case, or you aren't going to be able to fit everything in.

Maybe if I saw the fiberglass case you have made it'll clear things up.

well the wire movement is something i will still have to test, although the total movement is only about 1/2-3/4 inch but will see what kinda of abuse it plays on the wires themselves. as for how it would stand to abuse of pulling a cart in and out, when pushing it in it will rest over top the nes slot so that will brace it, and upon pulling it out it will be in a groove such as this, hope you can see what im trying to illustrate, the black is the cart slot itself, the blue being an attachment i will connect to the cart slot, and the red being the groove in which it will lay in

and as for the design that can hold both nes and snes cartridges, this is not to scale and not my case design, but the back would look similar to this, but with only 1 cartridge going in at one time. the big oval is the case btw.

again this is design stage and ill wait to test it further untill i get everything connected and wired up correctly, no need to have a perfect case if i accidently fry my board or something. i may change my idea and as the 1st pic in the post show, i may actualy create 2 side by side slot witht eh NES in back and SNES in front to avoid moving parts... just all depends on whether i get the mechanics together or not
