Has anyone seen the updated Macbooks? I just looked at them and they are amazing for their price. 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo,2GB memory, 250GB hard drive all for $1500.

And how is that better? It was probably a refurb; I wouldn't pay more than $550 for that.Negative_Creep wrote:Can't give you internet links... but I went to a computer shop and seen a laptop with a 2.66ghz Celeron D (okay not a C2D)... 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD and a X1500 (something like that, i'm not knowledgable on ATI).. all for $1000
Just about any C2D will run circles around a 2.6 gig Celery.
I just built up a 13" Dell laptop to specs comparable to the top of the line Macbook. The total came out to $1369, which is only $130 less than the Macbook. That's not a big deal when you consider you also get OSX and all its goodies, and Apple's high standards in presentation and build quality. (Why does an Escalade cost more than a GMC Yukon, even though they're really the same truck?)
Here's the printout from their online store, since it stores customized builds on a session ID / cookie system:

Not legally. Apple's EULA specifically states that you can't run OS X on third-party computers.Bibin wrote:The celeron is slightly worse than the Pentium III. It's horrid.
Now, if you get just about any laptop made in the last four years, it'll run Mac OS X. Better, you can get one much better than the macbook and run OSX on it while saving money.
