Well I'm not a full-fledged engineer yet, but I'm over halfway through my schooling and have done a few internships. I'll base this on my last one, which I will be returning to this summer.

What is your title?
Engineering Intern

How many hours per week do you work?
40-50

What skill sets do you use most to perform this job successfully?
A knowledge of software development, requirements analysis, analytical problem solving, and good teamwork skills.

What is your main responsibilities/ job duties?
I work on the M-109A6 "Paladin" Howitzer. I'm in the team that does the software development for project. Primarily I handle bugs, testing, and small code changes.

What training/education is needed to perform this job?
A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science, though a Masters Degree helps as well.

Were there certain classes that you had to take for this job that you could recommend that I take?
Basically anything in the curriculum of the above majors should suffice.

What is the starting position I should be in progress to your level?
Well, I'm basically as starting as you get.

What is the starting salary range in this field?
Usually around $50,000 - $60,000. (Mind you I live near NYC so there's a bit of inflation.

What benefits do you receive from this job?
I'm assuming you mean like medical benefits. The government doesn't give you benefits, but you get a pretty good discount through them, and there are many options to choose from depending on what you want.

How did you get this position?
I applied for it through my school.

What is the employment forecast for this position?
Engineering jobs are not going to be going away anytime soon, especially with a large drop in students studying science and engineering.

Where do you see this occupation going in 5 years?
There's for for growth into management levels, but in the government that can take a while.

What do you like most about your job?
Flexible hours, great working environment, interesting work that helps the service men and women of our country.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Meeting the demanding requirements set by the army.
