GC heatsink and fan

Hi guys.
since I started to work on my second gcp, I cut out a lot of plastic, I removed un-necessary connectors and I wired the regulator board to the MOBO (i removed every conectors under the mobo and I also removed the digital port.)

I need get the gc as smaller as i can, so here is my question.

did the GC "REQUIRE" have the fan cooling the heatsink or it can run only with the heatsink without the fan?

(i tryed 15 mins playing super smash bros melee without the fan and the heatsink seems stay at good temperature, but I want some experts´s opinions also before put the fan into and old box.

if anyone have another ideas for get extra space in my portable will be nice also

I'm pretty familiar with the GC inners. I take it you're trying to remove as much as possible. I havent tried running it without the fan as of yet, but i would try playing with the fan on for an hour of so, then do the sam without the fan (once is ahd cooled) and see what the peak temps are. I presume a snsitive food probe could help.
But i should think it would be fine without the fan. It's only a 50mm fan, and only half of the fan is actually used. Try it. =]

Please do, i may need your help on a current project i'm doing. Which requires me to make as much space in the base as possible, and remove all connections on the bottom of the board. Do you have msn mate?

I'm almost positive you'd need a pretty decently sized heatsink to get by without a cooling fan. It might seem small, and it doesn't move a lot of air, but the stock heatsink would get hot to the touch in seconds without it. The room and weight you'd save by leaving the fan out would be negated by the larger heatsink you'd need. The only other thing you could do, which I thought about as well for my GC laptop, is build the chassis out of aluminum and use that as a giant heatsink. If it worked, it might still get too warm to hold in your hands for extended periods of time, though. Unless you made some sort of rubber grips as well or something... How good are your case making skills?

Ive heard aluminum is the hardest thing to weld. Something about low melting point and just melting away from what you are working on. or something.

Ive welded with steel before and even thats too hard to pull off something "pretty" without like a few tens of hours experience.

I like the "case is a heatsink" concept though

well,I cuarently no have ideas for the case, so I will think on add again the fan.
