PLEO!
Does anyone here know what the Pleo is? www.pleoworld.com It is an autonomous robotic dinosaur that is wicked cool. I am friends with the chief technical officer (John Sosoka) at Ugobe, the company that makes it, so i get a totally awesome discount (read: free). It also helps that i write the tech collum in coastal scene magazine. Anyone else here have one, or want one?

If someone paid full price for one of those, I pity them. $350 for a robot that can't do anything. If it could do stuff like bring you the tv remote or a drink, then I might consider it to be a useful product. For $350 you could buy a Lego NXT set and some bulk pieces off ebay and make your own robot that you can tell what to do. Maybe the only thing this is useful for is kids that are allergic to dogs and/or cats or that live somewhere that pets aren't allowed.
But if I was offered one for free, I'd take it in an instant, congrats on being lucky.

I kind of agree that it is really expensive. I know it does not seem awesome now, but they were having a ton of trouble with the evolutionary learning software, so they had to leave it out. But John says that the software should be out sometime this summer, and let me tell you, it is amazing. One of the pleos running the beta firmware noticed that every time one of the developer's pencil holders fell off the table, he would make angry noises (they have pleos roaming all over the place to observe them). One time, one of the workers did not want to play with pleo when it wanted to play, and it knocked the pencil holder off his table just to make him angry! So there ARE small parts of it that are capable of evil!
When they release the firmware update, the pleo is going to be a lot cooler.

I'm like their sense of humor already
. But man, Pleo is quite impresive little bugger. And it well worth the asking price for the technology that Pleo packs. And Pleo's OS called "Life OS" by the way your talking is very complex. And from what i read is that it has some Paint Issues. But that can be easly changed by using a difrent kind of paint.
Anyway I could ahold of one of these little guys to give a review of for my site I have started a little while back?

Maybe! It really helped that i know him. They actually DO normally give them out to most reviewers, but they want them returned. I got one under those terms, but because John is in such a high position, he gave it to me and just told them to write it off as a marketing cost!
So i might be able to get you one, but you would have to return it after 2 weeks.

Hmmm...I would, but the parental units (im 15) say no...they think that posting photos (or videos) of yourself on the net is asking for trouble...Besides, i prefer to remain stealthy, like a ninja!
If you want to see one, there are lots of other vids on youtube. Is it to prove i have one? I might be able to get a picture of John Sosoka holding a sign with my username or something, but im not seeing him soon (He is in Idaho, im in California).
now.

Hi. this is Mom here. I haven't seen what Palmer is responding to, or why he is bragging about knowing John Sosoka, or why anyone would want proof of this, but yes, we do know the Sosokas. He needs to go do schoolwork now.
