FYI - The guitar that comes with the PS3 version of Rock Band is wireless. So you only need 2 USB ports (for the drums and mic) to be able to use all of the instruments. The stand-alone guitars (when released) will be wireless as well, hence the lack of a USB hub for the PS3 version.

Accually not entirely, it is wireless, but not Bluetooth wireless, it requires a USB dongle that hangs out the front.

I know this because my friend has a 40GB PS3 and Rockband.

Aha! Well that is lame then. I figured since it was wireless that it would operate via bluetooth like the Sixaxis controllers do, but apparently that is not the case. How hard would it have been to just make it bluetooth and be done with it? Way to go EA/Harmonix!

How do they expect people to play the game with a full band right out of the box? Nothing like selling a "gimped" $170 game to people.

Looks like the PS3's multiple SKUs finally bit it in the ass on something.

They probably used RF wireless instead of Bluetooth to keep production costs down or something. (Doesn't Bluetooth have to be licensed?)

Yes, Bluetooth does need to be licensed so you are probably right on the cost angle. That seems to usually be explanation for these things.

That was the excuse given for why the 360 Rock Band guitar is wired rather than wireless. They claimed that having to pay for the licensing from MS would have bumped the cost up $10, thus making the 360 version of RB pricier than the PS3 version.

Something tells me that most people (after pissing and moaning about it) would have rather paid the extra $10 to have a wireless version on the 360.

I originally didn't think it would matter much personally, but after having the wireless Les Paul with GH3 it is hard to go back to being physically connected again with the RB Strat. One of the reasons it pretty much collects dust these days.
