well last time I tried i had desoldered a bad joint inside an NES advantage joystick and then resoldered the wire onto it, leaving both irons plugged in. So when I was done with that I went to work on my 64 and could not get that stuff to melt,

I usually put extra solder on surface mount pins, then heat it and pull away gradually. The danger is the trace pads on the motherboard sometimes pull off too. I had a couple on the Dreamcast GD-ROM do this, but I soldered wires to the via holes to compensate.

I mean... oops did I say that?

I just did what Moose did. Hacksaw. Just cut it right off. :D

You just have to take it slow and be gentle. But it's very quick.
I keep cutting it off.. and it's still too short.

If you don't mean me, then sorry for looking like an idiot.

But that's how I did it, regardless whether you meant me or someone else. And it truly is the easiest way in my opinion.
