Not a chance, I just wanted to see if the buttons all worked, and if this will even be worth it. It is.

Well, I picked up a dremel today so I could finish up the case work, but I don't really know the best way to cut plastic with it. Help please?

What part are you cutting? The screen hole? If so do it like this:

1.) Draw your lines with a Sharpie
2.) Take an exacto knife and score along the lines. It helps for some reason, don't ask me why :?
3.) Use the cut-off wheel (the black grinding disk) and carefully cut along the scored lines.

If you have a flex-shaft attachment, it will greatly improve your accuracy if you use it. If not, the Dremel itself will do just fine.

Seems simple enough... I don't have an attachments, I bought just the dremel, and whatever it came with. I don't really have a need for it other then this little project, so I'm probably going to return it when I'm done.

I tested cutting on a piece of scrap plastic, and the cutting wheel melts the plastic if I leave it on too long. What number should the Dremel be on? I have it half way (5). Do I just have to work fast? Or outdoors so I don't kill myself?

Well I killed the DS. The screen cables are pretty mangled from trying to bend them a way they didn't want to bend, and the things that attach the ribbon cables to the DS itself are practically non-existent anymore.

In other news, I cut the hole for the screen with a Dremel, and it looks great, but still, the DS doesn't turn on.

SO- if anyone has a broken DS (Broken as in, top screen doesn't work, hinge is broken, has to at least turn on) and would like to sell/trade, PLEASE tell me!

Triple post... ew. But it's been over a month, so I guess that's acceptable.

I'm thinking about taking this in a whole different direction. Instead of wiring the fret buttons to the D-pad of the DS, why not wire the fret buttons to the up coming "Guitar Grip" for the soon to be released "Guitar Hero On Tour?" While I don't have anything against the Guitar Grip, I know big time Guitar Heroers (which is now a word) seriously hate it. Plus, I don't feel like wrecking another DS just to play Jam Sessions. (Seriously, why make music when you can just play along with it?)

Also, I read an article somewhere (think it was on DSfanboy) and it said something about how the buttons on the grip aren't mapped to any buttons on the DS, they're doing something with the GBA port. Also, since there are only 4 buttons, not 5, I can make the mod removable by wiring the buttons from the guitar grip to a USB cable, which has 5 leads (4 for buttons, one for ground) and then wire the buttons on the guitar hero controller to a female usb cable connector, so I can attach and detach without a problem!

There is a problem however with how the DS will be connected to the guitar... Based on the pictures, it's a sideways Brain Age style game, which means if I mount the DS on the guitar so the down strum is a down strum on the guitar, the top screen will be sideways...

You need to do something for the top screen now. Going with the original idea you have come up with, with the touch screen in place of the strum bar, in this game the top screen will be needed so how will that be displayed.

The top screen being on the guitar hero guitar will make it impossible to see properly, so in that case it will be no good... i'm yet to hear of a TV-out DS mod so...

Don't let that stop you! You're idea is different. And even if it's exactly the same, you're still doing it. Keep working, man. I would love to see your mod completed. Besides, there is documented evidence that you were working on your idea long before this story broke.

Keep on it Max, I'd hate to see you're (completely different) mod fall by the wayside. You've gone too far not to finish it ;)
