GC Portable... Inexperienced

Post by ItWasLuck3 »

Okay so let me start off... I've hacked video game consoles for about 3 years now, but mainly only the Xbox (ver. 1) so I know just about everything there is to hacking a xbox, so if you ever need any help I can get it to you.

Secondly... I was thinking about going to buy a gamecube to hack it up, and it occurred to me, a gamecube would look a million times cooler with a wii drive, plus it would be so much easier to portablize.

So here's my question... From what I have seen the connections for the DVD drive to the Wii are the same for the Disc reader to the gamecube... So doesn't that mean if I go and buy a replacment DVD drive (for Wii) and plug it into my Gamecube, will it work? Cause if the Wii can play gamecube games that means that the drive has no problem reading the games, and if it reads them just like a normal gamecube would, wouldn't this work?

Also secondly, I have never tried to power any console off of battery so I'm a complete noob when it comes to battery powering consoles. If someone could point me in the right direction regarding how to battery power a Gamecube I would be greatful.

Thanks.

Can I get a little more info... Why wouldn't it recognize the drive properly? If the Wii can run gc games that means the drive has no problem in reading the games...

Secondly How would it make it bigger? A Wii drive is maybe half an inch thick as the stock gc drive is anywhere from 2-3"

actually the wii drive is a HELL of a lot thinner than the stock gamecube one, hell the gamecube drive is thicker than the entire freaking wii!

As for your first question, I think the quickest way to get your answer is to try it. If it works, then I'm going to do it :P

This link might get you started on figuring out power issues. As always, search this forum and read the stickies to find what you're looking for.

I'd help you out more but I've never made a GCp.

Yeah the quickest way would be to test it but... I don't have a Wii, nor do i know anyone that would be interested in ripping theres apart.
