Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

My TV is making weird electrical squeaking noises and......

......It is freakin' the crap out of me, it is somewhat loud at times and I don't think it is the speakers because I turned the volume all the way down and it still makes the squeaking noises.

Google gave me nothing.

It is a 27" CRT Panasonic from around 1996-1997, it has been repaired at least once because it kept shutting itself off a few years back, mabey twice, and the TV does get quite warm, mainly around where the buttons are below the screen and back where the tube is, but that is normal for the back of the TV to get warm.

It was an Awsome TV for its time, PIP, Stereo output.

It could be a transformer or capacitor, but I've yet to come across a CRT TV that didn't make a high-pitched squeal. (I can barely hear it anymore, but when I was little it was nearly unbearable. One of the benefits of adulthood, I suppose.) We have a JVC that's about 3 years old and it's always made an electrical buzzing when it runs, sort of like fluorescent lights do.

My best guess is that there's something going inside. It should be okay for a while, but start shopping around if it starts getting worse.

I forgot about PIP. Good times. 8) Of course we couldn't afford those fancy TVs, so I had to put the old Philco next to the Zenith...
