I spent 3 hours today assembling this unit and an hour or so getting it cut, plus some sawing work myself. My wife wanted a book shelf for her hundreds of books we get for about 10p - 40p (20c - 80c) at car boot sales. I told her I would make this after my GP2x project and before my next project, so here we go:
It is 2200mm tall, 900mm wide and 160mm deep (floor to ceiling virtually). To stop it falling, I built an extended arm at the base; it is very secure and will not topple.

I didn't paint and varnish it, that would have taken days; it wasn't worth it for a bookcase; however when I made the lounge cabinet (houses an 80kg television, speaker system, ornaments; that was finished very nicely and painted and varnished; it is in two parts as it was too long and heavy, and the part above the Sky box is removable, as I need to reset the Sky box sometimes as it stops working properly. I made this about 2 years ago.
Yes, if you look closely, there is a photo on the right of my wife and I at out wedding in 1996 (I was only 30 then), and the large picture was one I finished in 1996.

The shelving unit only cost me £25 ($50) to make and the lounge unit was about £70 ($140); which is cheap.
It looks really nice in the room and actually makes the room look bigger. It is really rigid, and heavy!
