System Prices

I don't know about you guys, but theres been many a time that I've been standing it a thrift store, wondering if I should buy something. To make my life (and probably the lives or many other people) easier, we should have a list of prices for game consoles. Lets make a list of 1) good prices for buying, 2) what you could sell it to the average Joe for (selling on ebay, etc), and 3) maybe some things to look for when buying that specific system. Popular games would be nice, too.
So for whatever system you know one of those things for, post it here. Then I'll edit the information into this post so that we can have a sort of "thrift store price guide".

Well, here's what I think are fair prices for used consoles. I'm assuming average, reasonable used condition, not "half-melted in a fire" or "trampled by the Kentucky Derby" condition.

I'm not counting random stuff that never really caught on like the CD-i, 3DO, Apple Pippin, and PC Engine / Turbo Grafix 16 because they're basically collector's items. (Same deal with games. Of course rare games for the NES would fetch more than Pac-Man for the 2600.)

If there are any systems not listed here that are about as common as listed units, assume a similar price.

All prices USD, minimum price $5 after accounting for the following modifiers:

• - Has box: + $5
  - Box in poor condition: -$2
  - Per game: +75% individual game price
  - Missing AV / RF cables: - $5
  - Missing controllers: -$10
  - Missing AC adapter: - 25%
  - Generally in poor condition: -$10
  - Doesn't power up: - 75%

Consoles

Seventh generation (360, PS3, Wii): 75% current MSRP

Sixth generation (PS2, XBOX, GCN) : $50, $50, $30 (respectively)

Fifth generation (PSone/ PSX, N64, Saturn): $25, $20, $10 (respectively)

Fourth gen "big two" (Genesis, SNES, SNES Mini): $20, $20, $30 (respectively)

Third-Gen (NES, Master System): $15, $20 (respectively. -$5 on the NES if its connector is bad, +$20 if it's a top loader)

Second-Gen (Intellivision, Coleco Vision): Who cares about that turd? -$5! (Yeah that's right, you pay ME to take it off your hands!)

Atari 2600 (All): $10 (+5 if it's a hackable 4-switch)

Handhelds

DS (Phat, Lite): 75% current MSRP (Less if it's full of stickers or beat to hell and back)

GBA (Original, SP, SP Mark II, Micro): $15

GBC (They only made one): $5

Game Boy Light (Just one.): $20

GBP: $5

GBO: $10

Games

Any current console: 50% current MSRP

Last gen: $10-$15

Fifth Gen: $5-$10

Fourth Gen: $5-10

Third Gen: $1-$10

Second Gen: $0.10-$3

As a rule, thrift stores will charge you out the butt for everything. At my local Salvation Army, their pricing guide must say this:

Anything that plugs in the wall:
Small appliances: $20
If it has a weird green board in it you don't understand: $30
Anything computer-y: $100 (+$10 per extra green board)

And they write on everything in black Sharpie, and all their computers are really old like Mac LCs and 486-es to early Pentiums.

i would tend to disagree with your pricing somewhat, by my experience on ebay here is an average range of what things could sell for on ebay

Seventh generation (360, PS3, Wii): 360 in good working shape will be around 75% msrp. ps3 average around retail and wii sells for 3-600USD

Sixth generation (PS2, XBOX, GCN) : $20-50, $35-65, $30 (respectively)

Fifth generation (PSone/ PSX, N64, Saturn): $25, $20-30, $40 (respectively)

Fourth gen "big two" (Genesis, SNES, SNES Mini): $10-20, $30-50,40-60 (respectively)

Third-Gen (NES, Master System): $15-30, $20 (respectively. -$5 on the NES if its connector is bad, +$40-60 if it's a top loader)

these prices go up a lot with the inclusion of games, all the above are assuming all cords and at least one controller and possibly a game

The magazine retro gamer has a list of all consoles up to the sixth generation priced in the back of the magazine. It's in every issue at the back so I suppose it's updated every month. It essentially as all good systems including quite obscure ones. So if you have an underground gamer account you should go and download an issue or I can hook you up with an account if you need it or I could scan the section from my December issue.
