So I bought an iBook G3 Dual USB

Did you use Windex on the trackpad? Don't do that.

Leave the iBook unplugged, battery out, for a few hours to make sure everything dries. If the solvents didn't get to the trackpad, it's probably just got a Windex puddle stuck on the edge.

At least the iBook doesn't need an extension to get the trackpad working properly, like my Powerbook 1400 does.

is it running OS 9 or OS X? If you don't mind using iCab and slightly older software, you might get better performance by dual-booting OS 9.2.

Uh, yeah I used Windex becuase everyone said it was the way to clean it.

Ok I'm doing that right now. I really, really hope that it's just a small bit of Windex left, and that the trackpad didn't die complete from it.

Funny thing is, that both my nose and elbow are able to control the trackpad whist my fingers cannot.

Running OS X 10.4.11, and I'd rather use OS X.

I seriously didn't use all that much Windex to clean it. At least these trackpads only cost like $15 to replace, although taking the laptop apart will be a PITA.

Hah hah, no, it is not, Mr. Punctuation. We're talking about the Clamshell, which is *not* the Dual USB. I think the whole point of putting G3 Dual guts into the clamshell is about the screen, majorly. That means putting the 1024x768 LCD in there too.

...Wait, when did I say that? Where did that quote come from?

Anyway, if you still like my G4, it's on Ebay, steady with 1 bid at 350.

My trackpad is back on track (no pun intended!) Just let it work itself out, and after a few hours it's ok.

Big thanks to dragonhead for helping me slim down OS X so it works better than XP on a 2.8 GHz laptop!

I find it amusing that you resorted to trying your nose, the elbow I can understand, but nose is just...

Thats one of the things I find cool about Macs. Though they tend to make them into throw-away products in terms of upgrade ability (at least for the average person), its awesome that even their older stuff can still run OSX almost as fast as the OS version they originally came with.

RAM is so much more important than clock speed for XP. My 800mhz Dell PIII with 128MB RAM randomly LAGS on loading the *START MENU* In WINDOWS 2000, yet my LifeBook S5582, Underclocked to 308mhz (battery life, here we come), Pentium III, with 256MB of ram, is very speedy, responsive, and carries out non-graphic intensive things very well, like what you'd expect from a decent regular machine. Odd how mysteries these computer-boxes can be...
