So I bought an iBook G3 Dual USB

I decided to pick up an iBook G3 Dual USB from eBay today becuase I have been wanting a Mac for a while now to mess around with, and this one seemed like a good choice since it was only $200 and had an Airport + Office and 10.4.11.

Do you guys think it would be cool looking if I took off the white paint on the case so it was clear? Is there a tutorial on how to do that mod anywhere? I have searched Google a little and just found pictures of painted iBooks but not how they are removing the paint from the case, it couldn't be sandpaper since the plastic doesn't get that frosted look.

Any suggestions of what other stuff to do?

OSX has a built in app called disk utility that will do it.

I saw that and made me consider getting a G3.

Sorry but seeing the missing key and the dents really turned me off on your computer, and especially the price (maybe it's right, even with those things. I don't know). I know it's a G4, can run Leopard and all that, but those defects really put me off. :'(

Oh, and I don't like that silver color. If that keyboad is any similar to a MacBook Pro, I will hate it.

I've never used one of those iBooks, but using 800x600 is not fun. For about a week, I had to use 800x600 on my Lifebook (due to me screwing up some driver-related settings) and it was not pretty (also didn't help that everything was fuzzy, as the Lifebook's native resolution is 1024x768). Web pages either look bad or require lots of scrolling, as 1024x768 seems to be the standard that web designers expect users to have.

800x600 was fine back in the days of Windows 95, but now it just plain sucks.

Now what WOULD be cool: take a clamshell G3, gut it, and stick the newer G3 (with the 1024x768 screen) guts into it. No idea if it would be possible logically speaking, but it would no doubt kick ass.

i used 800x600 every day up until i got my 22" westinghouse lcd and i have this set at 1280x800 at present. 800x600 would not bother me in the least

So I got my iBook today, and play around with it for a while before I felt it was time to clean it.

I used the usual Windex to clean it as various people said to use.

After I cleaned the trackpad and everything off, I booted the laptop and tried to use it. The cursor was going crazy and seemed to be literately stuck to the bottom left of the screen. Once in a while the cursor will respond, however sporadically.

I have resetted everything and it still won't work right.

I am really afraid that I broke the iBook after less than an hour of use, however I read that humidity and moisture make the trackpad crazy like that, and I was using a liquid, so I am sure a little liquid seeped into the trackpad crevices.

Hopefully tomorrow all the liquid that was there evaporates and it works, or I'll be stabbing myself for doing this.
