...in a dream once. That's not the point of this post though; I need tech help.

So my LifeBook S5582 is a great little machine with good battery life. The problem? The speakers refuse to work! From some testing I've done, I can deduce that it is not a driver issue, as audio comes out the headphone jack fine.

The headphone jack is very loose, however, so I think the switch that disables the internal speakers is broken. Also, once, when I removed my headphones, I heard a few milliseconds of speaker-based audio, so I think that is it.

Does anyone know any software-based solutions that convince the computer that there are no headphones inserted? If not, does anyone know how to remove the keyboard?

I've spent the last few days looking for information about scientology and its members. I draw the conclusion that their values are still the same, but that they are trying to go more mainstream to cash in some money.

That's not the point of this post though; The switch is probably either a physical switch that directly turns the internal speakers on or off, or it is handled by hardware. So my bet is that you're out of luck unless you can open up the laptop and somehow resolder the earphone plug.

Hmm. There is a giant hippopotomus in the bathroom eating up all my SATA HDD's, but that's not the point of this post.

I think I'll try to remove the keyboard, which should give me access to the headphone jack area. I'll settle for even permenantly enabling the speakers, as I don't use headphones on this laptop.

My old laptop is a bit stubborn on sound. I have to wiggle a toothpick in the earphone port to make the speakers sound off. Try doing that, but be careful not to push the toothpick so far.

Here's a thought, you die you die, you don't need to be brainwashed into believing in a "higher order" and have enough self-worth to not need to think "there must be more to life than this".

Society encourages religion as it helps to keep society together and lawful; but atheism doesn't mean anything negative; I am atheist, but law abiding and fit perfectly into society; I come across many bible-bashers and "religious" in the course of my work who are thieves, adulterers, druggies, wife bashers, burglars, and mental health people who think they are Christ, etc: so draw your own conclusions.

I'm an atheist too, and I have long since drawn a lot of conclusions about religion as a phenomenon, all the way from the micro level (The individual) up to the macro level (How religion affects societies and large groups of people)
There are a lot of things I could rant about that, but this is not the right place.

My remark was a pun towards Bibin for catching my attention with the fire story to a slightly less serious problem. But it was not a lie, I had in fact investigated Scientology, but mostly the branch CCHR at the time. Some time after I wrote that message, the whole deal about the Tom Cruise video and the raids etc came to my attention. Both interesting and lulzworthy.
