Is there a way back or do I need a new psp?

I may or may not have made a huge mistake and rendered my PSP's analog stick functionality useless. The store is as follows, point and laugh at your leisure.

In the beginning I always had trouble with the analog stick on this PSP. I received it free (sans screen, analog stick or power button) from a friend. After buying the necessary components (screen, analog stick, power button) I install them. Everything works BUT the analog stick is pulling to one side. A quick Google search later, and I discover that I just had to adjust the case screws, until this stopped. The problem was, this never stopped. It just kept pulling in different directions. I took another look inside and discovered the tiny rubber contact thingy was a little damaged. Two grueling weeks later my new one arrives in the mail. Now here is mistake #1, I also ordered a custom faceplate for it, since surely it would work fine now. Upon unscrewing the analog stick from the faceplate, one of the screw holes broke off! Some loctite later (mistake #2) and I screw it into the new faceplate. Lo and behold the OTHER screw hole breaks off. So I unscrew it to glue that back on as well. Now, when unscrew the first screw, the plastic piece I glued on falls on the floor, and inexplicably rolls into my heating duct, never to be seen again. "Well" I said, "I'll just hot glue it there, since the loctite makes this plastic brittle". 5 minutes and some hot glue later, the stick is prepped and ready for testing. God help me it still moves! "OK you little jerk, I'll fix your wagon!" I say in a fit of rage and insanity.

Now, here's where everything goes wrong.

I decided to solder wires from the motherboard to the analog stick, thinking "No rubber contact pad, no problems!" The wires soldered on the alalog stick fine, But (and this is the big one) The copper (or gold)connectors on the motherboard came off! Leaving behind tiny metal strips to which they were attached. My frustration at this point should be apparent. I attempt to solder these tiny squares back on the motherboard. They stay, but now the analog stick pulls to the right even without an analog stick!

Now I am sad, but I had another Idea. I read about Ben's analog stick mod and got excited, but fell sad again when I saw how to install it. That won't work for me.

Here's the question (I am going to attempt this anyway, as I see no other option I just want feedback or other suggestions): Can I solder wires to the BACK ( facing the umd door) of the motherboard and onto a cannibalized Xbox analog stick? Or should I just go buy a PSP and give it up?

the 4 gold squares that came off are not important. Just solder to the little metal strips underneath them.
