I'm losing hope, motivation, and my sanity. I just completely started the left and right boards from scratch and finished wiring everything up for the second time. My screen is lighting up (volume and brightness buttons working perfectly) and I'm getting the proper voltages to the nes and video amp. However, there is no video or sound. Could it be?
1. the IC from the controller is bad.
2. the 1 Uf capacitor on the pc board that I used is non-polarized (I saw someone else asked if this was a problem, but there was not a definitive answer that I saw posted.)
If you help me get this thing working I would be very grateful.

What are you using for the video amp? The one from the book? If so try removing the resistor that goes from the collector of the transistor to power.
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.
