For a genesis portable surely you could use the motherboard from a Nomad, give it a bigger screen, some brightness and contrast controls, redesign the button layout and a rechargeable battery and then play Genesis games on the train?

Is it easier to make a new portable from a Nomad than a Genesis (1/2 or 3) ? I'm thinking bout doing it but never done anything like that, a screen replacement should be relatively simple (by simple I mean less difficult than a total build) right? I was wanting something around the size of a Nomad but with a bigger screen and longer battery life and made of plastic, not wood(fear of breaking).

Its an easier build as the mobo is smaller so your console can be smaller and also the contols are already sorted. If you add a bigger screen, the case will have to accomodate it so the portable will be bigger than a normal Nomad. What I'd advise you to do is just buy a working Nomad and LED mod the screen so it uses less power.
