FC Twin Controller Issues

Post by kreed219 »

Hello all,

I tried searching around the forums to see if anyone had an issue like mine. I found similar ones but wasnt sure if they were exact same issue:

I am currently using the standard FC Twin controllers. I got the Twin about a month ago and everything worked perfectly, however today the NES side of the twin works great but on the SNES side, the controllers dont seem to work. I would say the buttons got "switched" around but it seems as if the "B" button is the down, start, and select buttons all at once and I cannot get past the main menus on any SNES game.

I will be picking up a friends SNES first-party controller tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else had or has heard of this problem before so I will know whether to expect a nice fix or a let down come tomorrow.

Thanks for any help I receive.

I had to order official SNES controllers after a few Twin issues, maybe that will help. Mine haven't done anything TOO weird - just freak out when there is two player, but that is only occasionally.

sounds like it has something to do with the switch breaking in/wearing out/?getting stuck?. I'm guessing the power switch for each respective system is also the switch to determine the button configurations, perhaps when you are switching it to 16 bits the SNES game powers on, but you push it far enough that it uses the NES controller instructions instead, causing your system to throw a fit. It kinda makes me wish they used separate controller ports for the SNES and NES, then it would be compatible with the zapper too.

Could they do that without making it too clunky or complicated?

I dunno, I guess if you seperate the SNES ports far enough you can squeeze the two NES controller ports in it, but even then you need to use the SNES board to access NES games and... I dunno.

Me and a friend decided to try and play a two player game one time with the FC Twin's cover off. He pressed down on a certain part of the board and it seemed to make everything click...

Since then I made a little mod to my Twin but I can't seem to remember right now without opening the thing up.

I would imagine they could, that way instead of having some sort of switch mechanism between the two control schemes they could just wire the ports to the respective system (the SNES and NES are completely independent otherwise, spare power source). Probably the main reason they don't is because they would have to give you 4 controllers so you could play 2 player in each mode, that and they figured they were doing you a favor by simplifying it to 1 controller for both systems. Hopefully the FC Twin I just ordered from Amazon will be one of the newer ones that allegedly have better compatability and reliability, but I imagine it will be since I doubt they have old ones lying around, especially after the christmas rush.

How do you tell the difference between an older and more recent FC Twin? Sorry for the total noob q....I have noticed that mine plays TMNT 3: Manhattan Project and that was supposed to be an incompatible game with an older version...anyways just wondering and thanks for the input guys...I will be finding out the fate of the controller issue in a few hours

well, as far as I know the newer ones have Yobo on the box and have a 3-D Yobo logo behind the NES cartridge slot. It may not actually be a revision though, the wikipedia list was probably just inaccurate to begin with, these games are old and most aren't in mint shape so its hard to tell if its the game or the system causing the problem. I've even heard of gauntlet working by proxy as someone that reviewed it mentioned enjoying gauntlet, so besides Castlevania III I'm not 100% sure of any game on the incompatibility list. Suffice it to say, most asshats that body slam these consoles in reviews have dirty/broken games and just want to be stupid fanboys instead of accept that 20 year old video game systems aren't so hard to replicate with simplified chipsets and do a good job of it. I mean, I'm sure every single one of those anti-clone fanboys has used a third party memory card/rumble pak/controller/etc., so whats the difference? I bet the memory card interface for an N64 or Dreamcast is way more complex than a NOAC or even a SNES chipset.

thanks...well the official Nintendo controllers didnt seem to do the trick and I am still having the same issue described above. I opened up the Twin and looked at the chipset and everything seemed to be fine. I am at a total loss and go from having an FC Twin to a clone NES.

did you try moving the switch forward and back to see if anything responds differently? I used an FC Twin today and I noticed there is a lot of play in the 16-bit area so you may be too high up (close to 8-bit in other words). See how close you can get the switch to the "off" position and still have the 16-bit side power on. Also, try going to 8-bit and then going back to 16-bit, that seems like it could do the trick as well. Were you particularly rough/quick with the switch? They should've just had separate switches since everyone I see use an FC Twin flicks it super fast and I know thats not good for the hardware or games (probably could delete saves in fact). I'm 99% sure this is switch related since the games are booting and the 8-bit side still works fine (and the controllers do as well).

Yeah...my bad...I meant two at 40 a piece (with shipping)...I love the system but don't think $80 would be worth it.....we do have a local classic gamestore out here in Louisiana that did sell them for 100 bucks at one point which is outrageous.......u could by both original systems for that much

lol, you live in louisiana? so do I (Lafayette)! do you live in Baton Rouge? I was in GameWare in the Mall of Louisiana the other day and they were charging like $40 for metroid on NES! Also, where did you buy the FC Twin for $40 shipped? I just bought mine off amazon for about $45, but it sounds like you got a $5 better deal than me.

Yes, I live Baton Rouge. The place that I was talking about above was Gametrader in New Orleans. Their prices usually aren't that bad but for some reason they went crazy for the FC twin. I honestly have only been to Gameware like twice ever and was considering stopping by their to see if they had a snes for sale...not sure if they sell consoles or just the games. But if their prices are that high for games than I'm sure if they had a snes it would be ridiculously priced as well. I bought mine off of Amazon as well from videogamesdiva or something like that. Either way haowever much you spent...you got the better deal cuz yours works!
