PS2 to VGA out
I just got a slim PS2 (on the box it says SCPH-79001) and I want it to spit out a VGA signal to my monitor. I want the picture to be nice and crisp, and I won't be playing a DVD so (maybe?) I don't need the "green tint fix."
Aww. I just want to enjoy my favorite game (The Legend of Spyro, I am a Spyro fan ya know) in quality as high as possible. You know, to enjoy the explosions and action on great quality.
So, how do you wire this one? I want my PStwo warranty to be intact.
Thanks and a Happy New Year!

The Gamecube is the only sixth generation console to support true VGA output without extreme internal hacks, although it's only a max of 640x480p resolution and requires a hack of the rare component video cable. However, the Xbox and PS2 both support RGB and component video. If you can, just get a component video cable for your PS2; you won't notice a difference between that and VGA. I have one of the rare standard definition TVs in existence that supports component video, and I run my PS2 on that. Even though it's still only standard definition, I can't believe how sharp everything is. It's amazing. The PS2 supports up to 1080i (depending on the game... there's only a handful of 1080i games) with RGB/Component video. Spyro does not support resolutions higher than 480i. Sorry.
But component video will still make it look much nicer than composite or s-video.
But, if it needs to be VGA, you can get an upscan box. That, paired with a PS2 component video cable, will get you VGA. The problem: The input signal needs to be progressive; Spyro, again, only supports the lowest resolution, 480i. So actually, you'd be much better off just using a component video cable in SD mode if you can. That's the best you're going to get. If you still want VGA, you can get one of these or something similar. That will convert standard composite/s-video signals into VGA, but this is really just if you NEED VGA because you want to use a PC monitor. An S-Video connection on a standard-definition TV will probably end up looking better than this.

I have one of those SDTVs with component inputs, you are right about the picture, I hooked my DVD player and Wii into it through the component inputs. The picture is beutiful for a 32" CRT SDTV, although our old Digital cable box has only S-video and the cable out, I tried the S-video cables and doesn`t improve the picture at all. Although my friend`s 360 looked better on my universal S-video cables than on the Component ones that came with his 360 on that TV, only cause it improved the look of the small text.
Oh and the tv is a Sylvania bought around Christmas 2006.

Right! S-Video it is. I do have an S-Video TV since we can't go HD yet. (HD=Expensive)
Boy, if they do release my favorite on a PS3, ahem, I will surely buy one.
EDIT: Oh, screw. I can't use the only TV in our house. The only option is that five inch "suckingly small" tv or that VGA 15 inch monitor.
Five incher = composite
15 inch monitor = VGA
24 inch TV = S-Video (unavailable)

I'm sorry, that one's a Rick Roll... I had to.
This is the real one, I promise: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HD ... _PS2_games
