Problem with PS1P

Post by HotDog-Cart »

hey Im almost about done my PS1p. I have a giant problem though.

Let me explain:

When ever I put a disc in, the console starts to read the disc and then says "Please enter playstation format disc". I dont get why its saying this. My games are in mint. And Ive tried like 4 games, I've check the connections, I've cleaned the laser. Also, when I put a audio cd in, it loads the CD, and then brings me to the audio player screen, but then the cd stops spinning and then the "length" on the audio player goes to "0".

Can anyone help?

well, this is 2 possible solutions I know;

1. the spindle might be off balance. start the portable and watch the side of the disk, and when it spins up is it balanced?

2. there is a small potentiometer on the ribbon cable that may need turning.
easiest way to do this is to use a small straight blade screw driver to turn it. just keep trying different angles, you will eventually get it.

OOh, and make absolute sure that the ribbon cable is all the way into the motherboad! :wink:

1) Its not balanced and thats because I glued the disktray thing in sideways. (But it didnt even work when it was straight. Wheres the pentometer?

UPDATE: I found the pentometer, and played around with it. The first time I did it, it looked like I had it. The disc spun, kept spinning, and was moving fast, then it still brought me to the "no disc" menu on the ps1. (But while I was at the no disc menu the disc was still spinning.)

So I played around with it a few more times, and now I have a problem. When I turn it on the system goes "beep" and then spins for a few seconds and brings me to the no disc menu. That beeps probably like a beep code on a pc, which means something is broke or not fully inserted. Ive even tried moving the pentometer again and I still get the beep. I think somethings broke in the system.

Help?

the only beepish sound I can remember from a playstation was the original brick type and it buzzed when started. as for the beep on a small ps1 I would have to say it is not healthy. My only guess would be to balance out the spindle and mess with the pot some more, cause the un balanced spindle is one of the worst things for these stupid little things. :?

feel free to PM me xD

EDIT: and as for the disk still spinning at the no disk menu, that is normal i think. (well mine do that)
