PSOne composite problems [Fixed! Ground your video, kids!]

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

PSOne composite problems [Fixed! Ground your video, kids!]

Post by JeffMan »

I've decided to dismantle my PSOne screen from my old SNESp and turn it into a generic composite-in LCD TV for my video games. Here's the problem: I can't get video no matter what, I get no audio when I use pins 2 and 3 (reference), but I get audio (but no video still) when I use pins 9 and 10. I know for sure that I was using composite when it was on my SNESp, and it was working then. The three headphone pads are all soldered together. The problem persists with and without the +5V boost on pin 12 of the wide cable.

Additionally, when I did get the audio working on pins 9 and 10, the actual audio was very faint, while there was a loud static coming out too.

To connect to the console (I'm testing it with a Gamecube), I bought a phono plug board, and I'm getting each signal from the center pin of each cable hookup. Do I need to ground the AV signals? If so, do I just connect them to the generic power ground?

EDIT: Grounding the video made everything work. Go team! :)
