Disabling NAT

I just connected Xbox Live to my wireless network, but I'm having some problems. I'm using a Linksys router model WRT300N, and would like to disable NAT so my connection will be open when running wirelessly from my 360. When I did change the settings, though, my PC lost connection with the network. I remember reading somewhere that if you disable NAT you can no loner use a 192.168... IP address. Any way to change that, or alter the settings to change my IP address?

Also, what's the easiest way to set up a Linksys wireless network?

Kinda reset mine trying to find the router password my mom didn't write down.

I can connect to the internet, but nothing is configured.

uhh just hold down the little reset button for 10 sec and then you can connet nat isnt your prob

That resets the router to factory settings, and NAT is my problem.

IIRC, if you disable NAT things that share the same port cant work on multiple computers or something like that. Things like HTTP. Important things.

NAT is not your problem. (read up on wiki).

Im guessing here, but i think your Xbox just needs some ports open. Even better, its probably trying to negotiate them with UPnP, so if thats on it might work on its own. If not, find the ports it needs and forward them (Make sure "gaming mode" is also on in your router)

If that doesnt work, try making the Xbox a DMZ (demilitarized zone). That basically lets all traffic trough (effectively bypassing the router).

If that dosent work then ask yourself how millions of other people connect with an xbox through a router... theres gotta be a way, most people have no idea what NAT is.

If you disable NAT you will cut off your home network from the Internet.

You can change the IP addressing gy changing the numbers in the DHCP scope.

The easiest way to set up a Linksys network is to follow the instructions that came with the router.

Double-check that the ports Xbox Live needs are being passed by your router. For example, we have most of those disabled so my desktop machine can't access Steam but my laptop can from the neighbors' wireless (which is wide open, a very insecure and foolish way to set up a network). Your problem may be similar.

in case you didnt know live is a bit copulate up at the moment

so if it says you are connected but you can't play any games you may still be connected correctly.

Yeah, I figured that out after about 3 hours of getting booted out of sign-up randomly.

But could the Live problems be why my mic isn't getting any audio feedback while playing? Had that problem today, too...

And thanks to all who helped, I set up DMZ and re-amped my security settings; all is now well and good, and NAT reads as Open. Thanks again!
