Exposed PS2 + Carpet = My Noob Problem

Yup It Happened To Me; Had Taken Apart My PS2 Being Very Careful With The Silver Reset/Power Button Cable, Disconnected The Drive By Taking Out Its Gold Cables And Had The Two Exposed Boards Neatly Laid Out.

Decided To Test It To See If It Were Still Working So Reconnected The DVD (After Much Cursing) And Powered It Up...

...Silence

The Eject Button Dosent Light Up, The Drive Is Totally Silent (No Whirling At All) And All I Get Is A Black Screen When Connected To A TV With A Breif White Flash When I Power It Up.

I Didn't See Any Sparks Or Such When I Was Working And Now My Student Loan Is In I've Just Bought A Continuity Checker And Am Praying Is A Solution That Can Easily Be Fixed By Replacing A Dead Fuse Before I Continue With My Quest To Make It Portable;

Fat PS2
PS1 Screen
Internal HardDrive (Any Idea How To Make The Network Adaptor Smaller As All I Want Is The Hardrive Connections?)

Test every fuse that's on the board, that was my problem.

Not normal, but it definitely should be fixable. Search through every fuse, and when you find one that doesn't show continuity, you can either jump the two leads on the fuse or replace it. It's recommended that you replace the fuse, but if you're short on time, a temporary jump can be in order.

If all else fails, PS2's have become a little cheaper lately.

Maybe you could buy a "broken" PS2 and just clean the laser lens, that's what I did, it's been working ever since.

PS2's now are stupidly cheap but having a PS3. Yhe PS2 never sees use - it had some shelf life before Guitar Hero 3 came out on PS3 Just because the guitar wasnt compatiable with the newer system.

So seeing as I've got one spare I'm gonna 'try' to portablise it so I can use it to play both movies and games in my car and at Uni in a way my PSP cannot.

No Clue How To Test, I Keep Touching The Little Wires Of The Fuse With My Continuity Tester But What Do I Touch With My Finger? The Other Side Of The Fuse Or The Mother Board Itself? Or Am I Using It All Wrong?

Edit: Google'd And Am Now Correctly Checking But All Fuses Seem To Light Up

Carpet isnt a really good place to work. If you zapped one of the chips with static electricity its probably permanently dead. You should be working on a table with something grounded nearby to touch.

Personally, I dont like to open anyones PS2 cause they always seem to break in my hands

Also, you only need to capitalize the first word in each sentence.

Sorry kinda got use to always using caps as I always do it in text messages - I don't even notice when I do it.

Upon closer examination the fuse labeled PS3 doesn't appear to light up and from what I've read on http://www.wtka-sa.com/psx/database.php someone had an identical problem to my own.

Ordering the new fuse later tonight after a few more rechecks to see if any others have blown.

PS2 has been moved to my desk; and I've learned my lesson no more working on carpet or the bed and gonna invest in some anti static wristbands when I buy a soldering iron in the next few days.

If your bed sheets are dried with those static-reducing softener sheets, your bed should be relatively safe to work on, as far as surfaces that conduct static electricity go. I don't recommend it, but it's definitely much better than the carpet.

Update:

My 2nd check of all fuses wasnt as sucessful as the first as all of them appeared to light up - which instantly made my mood plummet downward.

I tried to plug it in again yet it still had the same results; no activity from the cd/game drive at all and total lack of noise, theres power to the Red Power LED but not to the Blue Eject One and upon closer inspection of the silver cable of the six or so tiny silver lines that go into the Reset and Power buttons only one is actually intact (although the cable itself isn't ripped or torn)

I'm also finding putting the Gold DVD cable that goes directly into the underside of the DVD lazer assembely from the motherboard incredably tricky as it always seems to come out seconds later with the slightest bit of movement from the motherboard (and holding it in place with the power on only succeded in me getting a first hand experience of eletric shocking - hand accidentally touch the power board)

Any clue whats going on with the system? anybody willing to repair it? and would soldering wires to replace the various Gold and Silver cables fix the annoying loose connections? - gotta do it eventually anyway to make it portable but is there much point if the dvd tray shows no signs of life?
