FC Twin built with S-Video...

I saw these at a store called PlayNTrade, they make their own FC Twin systems (not from Yobo, and the pre-packaged controllers suck, but it still takes official SNES controllers so that's not a huge loss if you have some of those) and they come with S-Video.

Anyone try these before? I'd bet they have the same insides as the Yobo Twin, but that S-Video is almost enough for me to trade my old Twin and pay the difference...

are you sure its not just the newest model FC Twin? last time I was in play n trade they had Yobo branded FC Twins.

All the newer FC Twins use the CXA1645 encoder. This is just for the SNES portion, the NES portion is still composite only since its an NOAC. All you need is two capacitors and two resistors to pull s-video off of it. Just search for "CXA1645" in google and look at the datasheet.

Sure, RGB can be tapped off the CXA chip also. Ive done it.

I used one of these systems just last night at Play N Trade, they're called the Play N Trade *something* Dual. They are surprisingly small, even compared to the FC Twin, and I like how they made the NES and SNES seperate switches: you push NES or SNES and then flip the on/off switch. This is good because I suspect many battery backed up SNES games have shorted out by switching quickly to NES mode. Also, I like the controllers. They look really odd (unlike the SNES clones that the FC Twin has), but the D-Pad feels like the 6 button Genesis controller (awesome) and the buttons work OK. The only problem I have is that the system has abysmally bad build quality. The guy that was working there even agreed that it felt very low quality compared to the twin. It was so funny, we both had the same reaction when inserting or removing a game, kinda like "did we just break it?" Also, at $60, its $15 more than an FC Twin shipped online. So, at the end of the day, I like the forward thinking concepts like seperate NES/SNES selector, S-Video, and comfortable controllers, but until they get the build quality better than even the basic Yobo FC console, I'd say stay away because if you sneeze you could probably break it and if I'm gonna pay $60, I'd expect a little more.
