Could this be? (PSX Clone)

I was looking for sega genesis clones when i found this: http://www.sz-wholesale.com/p/TV-GAME/3 ... -6025.html

It appears to be a PSX clone. It plays disks. Looks like a playstation, it has controlers like a playststion. And I know that the playststion is 32-Bit. Could this be a real Playststion clone. Or is this one of those things where they make sound big and powerful when it can only play NES games?

No way to know for sure until someone gets a unit to try out. Looks cool as all get out, though. Kind of a mash-up between a dev Playstation and a Sega Saturn.

Most likely not PSX compatible, and just coming with some 3D games that are their own, like the Vii.

be aware that (especially in germany) there are lots of NOACs with playstation cases (and PSX), but under the CD cover there's just a cartridge slot. False descriptions aren't uncommon either, I'm staying suspicious, it's too early for 32bit clones

What ticks me off, however is that this thing has a CD included, and a remote. Could this perhaps be real?

The description says that it is also a VCD (Video CD) player, which is a popular format in Asia. There are VCD players that play games, the question is which games this one plays. I found a website professing that one could play SegaCD games, but never had stock of them.

Keep in mind that VCD and DVD players have processors inside that are typically 32-bit, so program 3D games for the particular processor inside, and you meet the description of the device. Also, it may be that the device emulates a PSX, then the question becomes "how well?" You can certainly have full speed PSX emulation on newer embedded chipsets, just look at the PSP. On the other hand, there are PMPs from Asia that play NES games, just not at full speed(like the one bacteria got for free).

the biggest problem with this (at this time) is the patent laws. Perhaps its possible to make a PSX clone, but there is no way the patents have expired yet.

Just because something is illegal doesn't mean people won't do it...

Do any of the places that sell NOACs know that they're selling NES clones? I never said it was likely, but its still possible.

Oh please, NOACs have been around for ages, long before the patents expired. There are also SNES and Genesis clones, and those patents haven't expired either.

Wait.. I really saw one at Greenhills back years ago. And I was at the Philippines back then. I played it as a demo unit. I don't know if it was the same unit though.

It plays Video CDs...

It does play CDs...

But... pop a PSX cd in and it won't play.

So... What does it play then?

Crappy NES games on a "propriety" CD. My rear end. (should I say "imaginary tail section?")

The controller is a PSX clone kind, down to the connector (!). I also noticed, just like the megajoy, the analog stix are fixed pieces of crap. The X and O buttons work, the [] and (triangle) buttons are turbos.

D-Pad works, Start-Select works, Shoulder buttons push in but don't give a darn.

Crappy knockoff. Period.
