It's happened in the industry before. Besides, multiplatforming is hardly uncommon in gaming today.ChrisS wrote:I don't think it will ever happen, but it would be a nice fight to watch to say the least. You also have to consider, being that Halos MP is the dominant part of the game what happens to DS players if it were to ever come to the DS. I'm not so sure you could integrate DS players, 360 players, and in the future (in regards to Halo 3) PC players. It could be DS only through WiFi linkage, but that would depend on Bungie launching new DS only servers.
Wait, what? Where did I ever advocate Microsoft making a handheld? And though it may be a gamble releasing a handheld for any other company, Nintendo has an enormous, stable market base in the DS. If a company were (and I'm not saying they will) to release a game like Halo DS, it would be extremely profitable. It's huge for Nintendo, not so much for the PSP. Besides the success of the DS and other Nintendo handhelds it is a very very fickle market. If Microsoft thought that the handheld market was truly profitable and worth it then they would have entered it with their own handheld. Microsoft is not shy to tackle new markets and they have shown no interest in handhelds.
I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Microsoft actually LOSES money for every 360 they build and sell, anywhere between $50 and $150 depending on the market at the time. There have been short spurts in which they profit from the console sales itself, but as I stated before, companies make money off of software, not hardware; consoles are just there to make you go out and buy vast numbers of games. If you had the choice between releasing a game you made by making consoles specifically to play that game, losing money on each console sale, and then selling that game, or taking advantage of a preixisting market and selling your game via it, which would you do? Kinda common sense if you ask me.True, but now more than ever due to the RRoD fiasco of the 360 they need to get more profits for the 360 hardware and Halo has no problems selling on the 360 without other hardware in the mix. Plus, it sells Xbox 360s like no other game ever will.
Again, never advocated Microsoft making a handheld, just them taking advantage of Nintendo's empire and selling games on the DS. And at the time the Xbox was released, Sony's grasp on the console gaming market was huge, but it didn't stop them from trying there. We'll see a Microsoft handheld out there eventually. Gates has said he wants to take over the gaming industry, not just consoles. Not really for the points I've already made. Xbox fans have been pushing for handhelds for a long time and flooded the Xbox boards with the suggestion for years and Microsoft hasn't given any attention to it. I think Microsoft has written it off as Nintendo territory and don't plan on bothering with it, but this is all IMHO.
And just as an added point, Microsoft released Halo on the Mac. They saw a potential market and they went for it, even though they didn't make the system it's running on. They know that they have to deal with competition every now and then if they wanna make money. I think it would be a good thing for them to make a handheld game of some sort before they release their own handheld. That way, they are tested, tried, and true in a handheld field before they come out, potentially, with one of their own.
And Valium, that's what she said.
I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Yes, they lose money on the initial sale of the console itself, but getting the console into someones hands means they are buying games and proprietary accessories for that console which is profit.CronoTriggerfan wrote:I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Games like Halo move consoles, once you own that console you buy other games and accessories for it, which is all profit, by putting that game on another console you lose sales for your own console and all of the sales tied to that console.
Selling many copies of Halo = profit.
Selling copies of Halo and your console, which generates other software sales and accessory sales for your console = more profit.
Only because of their history together. And just as an added point, Microsoft released Halo on the Mac.
Bungie made games for Mac before they ever made games for Microsoft and the Xbox. Halo was spun from Marathon, which was Bungie/Macs answer to Doom long ago.
I think after Halo Wars for the 360 the Halo franchise is going on the shelf for a long time. If anything Bungie is going to work on new Marathon games and release those multiplatform.

Was it ever clear if it was just some random modder/group of them? I'd heard things floating around that it was a legitimate game studio that made the game, pitched it to Bungie, and got shot down. That's just a rumor I've seen floating around, though, so by no means take it as fact.Super Cameraman wrote:Even though it is fake, is the person who reskinned Goldeneye going to release the file to the public? Or would that be illegal?
