Then how do you explain our why our 2003 Yukon XL doesn't have one? Just because the top of the key is plastic or rubber doesn't mean theres a chip in it. Our 1999 Windstar, 2000 Excursion, and 2002 Focus (I think) all had the chips in the keys, though. Made it expensive to get new keys, we only had one for the Windstar. Even now, they're probably only used in more expensive vehicles (which makes me wonder why the Yukon doesn't have one, and the Focus did).

Replace all the locks and ignition. Or, you can sometimes have new keys made by using the VIN number.
