Okay, last day of school today. I got some cool things from friends. Lots of Candy, a wind-up toy car, some pretty cards...

And a set of car keys. Siiiick, right?

Not really, they're a joke gift. Nobody knows what car they are for. Of course, on my quest to know absolutely everything about everything, I want to find out what car it's for. I got a key and a keyless entry remote.

Here's your clues, match the car to this:

Key:

Gold/Brass in colour.
On one side: SC1 USA
On the other (sloppily stamped at varying angles and slopes): VER

check the official FCC site. its wireless, and those things are public knowledge. You might be able to find the manufacturer, (could be in house).

EDIT: after a google of the fcc id, many of the hits are about Pontiac Bonevilles. Go Check Em!

Yeah, but those have the pontiac logo on them. Mine's an unbranded, generic remote.

Going by the key, could it be a Saturn ST1? It's GM.

A Saturn SC1. I did a google search for "SC1 USA car" and it directed me to an auto parts store. They had an air intake replacement for the "93-95" models. Now I'm on Google image search. I'll get a picture.

Now, I know on my old van, our key worked in another van (a complete stranger's van) and was able to start it, drive it, and everything...

not going to happen. Sorry. Since around late 80s, they started implanting chips in the keys so that it only works on one car, since then more and more are using it, so all 2000 + have em. (this is why they have the rubber part towards the top mind you)

I'm saying the key won't work for some random SCI, it will have to be the correct one, or the chip wont work.

Then please explain to me just how the completely metal spare key I had made at the hardware store works, since it doesn't have this "chip". Same deal with the other car and truck, which have separate remotes.

I think they're as real as Microsoft's 'chip smashers'. None of our cars have 'smart' keys, except for the Accord, which has the remote entry thing built into the top of the key.

All of these cars are newer than "the late 80s".

When we got a spare key for my sisters 2004 Ford Escape, we needed to buy a spare key, and get the chip updated, so that it would.
