ATi Radeon X1600; what games should I be able to play?

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

ATi Radeon X1600; what games should I be able to play?

Post by lifeisbetterwithketchup »

I will be getting an X1600 soon for free from a friend (we're building a new computer for him, and he's letting me have his old stuff). Anyway, the computer this would be going in is a Dell 4550: 2.53Ghz P4, 1GB RAM, XP SP2. What recent-ish high-profile games should I be able to play on this thing (I'm not too familiar with PC gaming)?

I looked, and I could not find anything on your card. I do know, however, that Intel Chipsets have a "Game Compatibility List" for the cards they belong to. Maybe ATI has something similar (I couldn't find anything)
Hey, sup?

There are two kinds of people: people who like pretty graphics and ps3, and people who like gameplay and nintendo.

If you dont mind seeing aliasing, grainy textures, poor isotrophic projection, no dynamic lighting, etc, you could probably run any game short of Crysis or the new Unreal - just crank all the setings down to "low" and "off" and run it at 800x600, in dx 8 or 9 compatability mode. Then adujst up till your framerate drops below about 40 or 30, starting with resolution, then textures, etc (things that affect visuals the most)

I could run Oblivion on my 'old' 9600xt, even though it was the "new high-end" game of the time. It ran at mostly medium settings too.

You forgot "people who like both and the 360". ;)

That card should be able to run new-ish games at 1024x768 just fine. It's only a couple years old. Try using the TV out feature sometime, it's a blast with emulators, games, and video. 8)

Thanks, Bic. I usually run at 1024x768, as anything higher refuses to display at >60Hz (on my crappy Compaq 17" CRT monitor). As for TV out, I could, but I already have XBMC on my Xbox (which can do emulators, games, and video). Also, my TV is a 35-year-old Sony 19" that only has RF in, so if anything it's a step down from my computer monitor.

...I'm sorry, but I still don't get it. I never mentioned any game consoles, just my PC.
