The computer that eventually evolved into my P3 500 machine was built completely out of scavenged parts. They gave it to me because it was a motherboard in an otherwise empty box. I threw in a P2 333 board, then up to a 450, and eventually a P3 500. (It was Slot 1, so swapping processors was a simple matter of replacing cartridges.) Eventually it had 256 MB of RAM, a CD burner, and 54 gigs of storage. Then it couldn't do what I needed it to, and I built this one. :P My next machine (in 5 years or so) will either go in this old case or a Gateway 2000.

When I graduated someone donated a whole bunch of Compaq DeskPro ENs. They gave me one that didn't have a hard drive because I basically kept their random fleet of computers running for 4 years. (It was a small school.) It served as a media PC and a sandbox web server, but then I discovered the joys of virtualization so it lives in the garage. I might wipe it, install a second LAN card, and run Server 2003 on it.

Specs:
Pentium 3 950
512 MB of RAM (it had 64 MB when I got it.)
Integrated everything
40 gig HD (didn't have one when I got it.)
DVD-ROM (had a CD-ROM.)

My computer used for the internet is a Pentium 3, 800Mhz, 1Gb RAM, a Matrox Millenium 64mb video card. It works perfectly fast. You don't have quicker surfing because you have a faster computer - my computer will load sites (eg BenHeck) just as quick as yours!

My gaming PC is a dual core processor system (of course).

I once picked up a server computer from my school for 10 bucks. I still have it. It works fine as a server, I run slackware linux on it, with no trouble!

Haha, the only gaming system I ever was allowed as a kid was a Game Boy Colour.

Moving out got me a N64 and a PS2, but I really still have very few systems.

Only thing I ever got free was a IBM Thinkpad I posted about in the Tech Q&A section. They had 2 t20s and an a21p (i got this, more powerful) and they said I could take one if I made a working laptop out of the 3.
Other than that, haven't had many freebies.

I'm also getting a free fujitsu s5582 lifebook. Tommorow, my school is holding a "turn in yer broken old electronics" thing. I intend on scavenging for some awesome gameboys or broken PSP's.

I may consider giving someone the one with the broken screen. Perhaps someone can remove the screen and build the best genesis handheld we've ever seen.
