I have a 3v 650mAH car adapter. Is that too little to power the 3.3v needed on the n64? I know that it usually runs on 1.2-1.5 amps but I'm sort of desperate.

That's not going to work. A bunch of them in parallel could do the trick, but that could be too big.

The car adapter which is fine is the Sony Walkman one, it is 1 amp (minimum which works). I used it, after researching on this forum someone said it would work (ages ago) so I tried it out. Downsides - only runs from mains power (batteries are no use, needs mains) and you can only use a jumper pack as the expansion pack doesn't have enough power to run the system.

My system works (as you see from my sticky), however everything "only just" worked; 0.02v less and I didn't have enough power to run the 3v line, car adapter amperage, etc. Up against the wall!

Someone, like khaag, could sell you a TI board which you could step down your battery pack to 3.3v.

get a 100uf 35v capacitor
get a 1.87k resistor (or a 1.8k and 7x 10 ohm resisotrs)

Wire it up using ti's shecmatics. you wont regret it.

I question the use of 8 resistors.

If you want, Im sure you could find a two-resistor combination that is close enough. However, it is fine go to a bit lower on the voltage, and using a more common value like 2k is fine too. I just put in a variable resistor, and found I was able to go as low as 2.9v (2.6k) before the system shut down.
