What's the best site for uploading pics to for posting?
I used ImageShack originally, worked well until it got so bogged down with users that it often didn't load or allow you to use it.
Since then I have been using PhotoBucket, it is far better than ImageShack, but since I uploaded the Shockwave plugin (or Flash viewer, not sure which), the site keeps pumping out ads which drain by broadband speed and slows my computer down sometimes. I didn't get this before because I didn't have the plugin installed on Firefox.
What are the best sites out there which allow you to upload as many pics as you want, give you an url for each picture so you can insert them into this forum, and don't hammer bandwidth with advertising banners and suchlike; oh yes, and free?? It is fine if you can only upload pics, if the site can also upload files too (eg PDF's) that would be a nice bonus!
What do you guys use - what is the best solution??

So Many Kinds of Bagels - Interesting - tell me more. I uploaded a pic, it gave a link, ideal. Are there any restrictions to it, for example, on PhotoBucket I have over 300 images, about 4 short vids and about 6Gb bandwidth a month on it. Any restrictions or issues on your site?
If your facilities are limitless, I would intend to use it! When you say "my own" do you mean you programmed it and maintain it or tweaked it in some way? Please elaborate, I am interested...

bicostp - It might be because the servers are USA and I am UK, so there is a time difference; perhaps the servers go down/went down during USA night time?? I don't know, it was fast for a while, then got unusable. I used ImageShack for a while on my early projects, then had to migrate.
Skyone - tinypic.com looks nice, thanks for that. Nice link, I will give it a go. It still has the streaming video ads though. Many Kinds of Bagels - Kyo - any restrictions on your site for the bandwidth and amount of pics I would be using??

You can upload an unlimited amount of pictures, and there is no bandwidth limit (well, my provider has one obviously, but I won't reach that.)
Currently you can upload files up to 1000kb big, I don't know why I chose that number, I might change it later on.
Anyway, the basic idea behind my thing is simplicity, no distractions, no ads and most importantly, speed. As you might have noticed my site does have no design whatsoever. This is so the focus is on image uploading, images are easy to find, it will load faster, and I won't have to make a design.

Thanks guys, great feedback and some useful links. I will start to use them...
who's should I use though
...mmm...discuss...or should I pick one at random...or chop and change...discuss...
On a serious note, the site like Kyo's, So Many Kinds of Bagels's and Skyone's for example, they don't have a password system on them, so would other people be able to change the images uploaded or amend them as of course it is easy to see the path to an image by selecting "quote" on a forum (I don't want someone to hijack my images). Or is a file path completely unique and unchangeable (ideal)

The only person that would ever be able to tamper with the image/URL is the site administrator, but they generally wouldn't do that.bacteria wrote:On a serious note, the site like Kyo's, So Many Kinds of Bagels's and Skyone's for example, they don't have a password system on them, so would other people be able to change the images uploaded or amend them as of course it is easy to see the path to an image by selecting "quote" on a forum (I don't want someone to hijack my images). My host generates a random number in front of the original file name, thus being able to keep the original filename without avoiding duplicates. However, it also checks if the image already exists. If it doesn't, it chooses a new random number, so no, nobody could alter your image (except me, but I won't)
The only restriction is that I occasionally delete porn uploaded to it.
