I fried my beloved N64!!!! How can this be!!!! everything was fine and working until I took off the controller ports and soldered the wires directly to the board!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

hmm... unplug the ac/dc adapter and wait around 30 minutes and check again. The n64's psu has an autotripping fuse in it so that might be (and hopefully is) the problem

actually, I think you only have to wait around a minute....at least, I did when that happened and it worked

Is it just me, or is the N64 a very picky system with just about everything? Voltage, controls, screens, speakers, everything. Everyone who has attempted an N64 has fried at least one, even Ben. I began thinking of one, but I know the games I liked on the N64 will make it to the DS anyways, so I'm just cheap. Too cheap to find an N64, batteries, and the time to make a case thats decent, but for some odd reason, not too cheap to rebuy the same games over again.

yes, it is very finicky and if you mess up even a little it would probably die. thats why if i kill my next n64 (shouldnt happen) i will go on to a different system

Th 64 is worse than those little goldfish you buy in pet stores for 25 cents, that die the next day. The 64 dies as soon as you open the case, or even worse, when you've finshed all the wiring

It worked... for a little while. AND RIGHT AFTER I HAD FINISHED THE CASE AND WIRING IT DIED!!!! GRRRRRR!

i just fried my n64 last night, but this morning it turned on, when i plugged in the controller, and video, and game and expansion memory it wouldn't turn on. I have opened my case, is this the reason?

That's why I would buy a couple of them at Gamestop before attempting n64 surgery. (They're only 15 bucks here.) I serviced a PC with a similar problem once. Without a ps/2 mouse, all was well. Plug a mouse in, and *rasberry sound here*

Why do N64's fry so easily? It's like you need a clean room to make a portable.

Probably because Nintendo rushed the gun to turn out a 64-bit system before they were ready to. When you think about it, a 64-bit system was a great advance when it was turned out, but it did come out before they were ready. I think the newer models are better than the old ones when it comes to the matter of fried circuits.
