New guy here with a battery question

Post by vnmeagle »

Hey guys, i am looking at making a portible out of an FC Twin down the road. At this point in time i dont have any of the parts and i am looking for a deal on parts watching ebay to try to do it on a budget if possible. Anyways i got a Durapro Zipstart XL as a gift last year, and was wondering how that would work as a power supply PDF Instructions

Dimentions ~ 2"x2"x8.5" (20.4oz just over 1.25 lbs) img 1, img 2

It has 11 cells and the marking on the cells is Ni-Cd 1500 mAh 13.2 V

the guts

idea includes keeping the ability to use the AC charger for the system and have an internal battery pack, as well as retain the ability to plug into a 12v car outlet.

It will work, but 1500mAH isnt' going to give you a very high battery life. A PSOne screen itself consumes 1500mAH on its own...

Also, you will have to get the appropriate step down regulators and such.

the obvious solution here is to split the cells into two groups and go series/parallel to get ... 6.6 volts? (I think it might actually be closer to 7.2, but its rated lower cause its such a high current application, and the voltage delivered would be lower when you are using it?) anyways. if theres 12 cells total, you are good.

your battery pack would be 7.2v, 3000mAh, and... 1.25lbs.

each of those NiCd cells holds less power than a rechargeable AA battery. If your price bracket is "cheap" you might be able to find some of those on sale or something. (you need at least 12 to power anything reasonable).
