Almost finished wireless Xbox 360 controller mod need help!!
Hi I was just wondering if anyone can help me ,I have an xbox 360 controller which was modified for me by a very cool guy here in brisbane Australia . He tried his best, it took a long time ,was a first for him i think but it didn't quite work. I have one hand (my left) and I asked him to rewire the controller so the left analogue stick acted as the right and the right stick acted as the left. The triggers were also swapped over . The only problem is the left stick (acting as the right) keeps moving down during gameplay effectively making you look at the floor during a FPS. He tried and tried to fix the problem but I think he was a bit sick of the whole project in the end . Can anyone help me with this problem ? It's happening on every game I have so not an 'in game' problem. Obviously some kind of calibration (?) problem which I can't fix myself and that my friends is why I am here. Help? Please? I am so close it's killin me. Thanks, Mick
back in the old days systems like the N64 had a button combo you could press to reset the zero point on the joystick. It would set this based on the position of the joystick on startup, and if it wasnt in the neutral position (ie controller upside down, idiot playing with stick), you would get the same problem with always moving in one direction.
I dont know how the 360 works though...
Could be the joystick is perma-busted.

It could be when the guy who was doing this mod was working on it, he accidentally bridged two of the pins on the joysticks potentiometer. That would make it always go in one direction.timmeh87 wrote:back in the old days systems like the N64 had a button combo you could press to reset the zero point on the joystick. Sounds like a loose wire.
This also reminds me, about a month or two ago I was bored so I replaced a Ps2 controller's d-pad with another joystick. And I got the same problem Mick here is having. It wouldn't happen all the time, just as soon as a part of the controller board got bumped the wrong way, but it was just too sensitive to it that I just scrapped the project.

Hi mick, can you be a bit more specific as it there could be any number of things happening? You've got the left stick set up to act as the right, and there's a problem where this left stick is generating a 'down' signal when it should consider itself to be 'centred', right? When it starts pointing down, does it creep down slowly or does it go straight down?mick wrote:The only problem is the left stick (acting as the right) keeps moving down during gameplay effectively making you look at the floor during a FPS. If it's a slow creep it sounds like it could be the callibration, if it's goes from 'centre' to 'down' in one go it's probably a loose wire as has been already suggested.
To get a better idea as to its behaviour, you could connect the controller to your PC (will need one of those little wireless dongles if it's wireless) and install the Xbox 360 controller drivers (the free ones made by someone on the web work best for me). You can then look examine the inputs from the controller, and see if the problem is that it's just not 'centred', or if the input is erratic.
I'd offer to take a look at this myself but unfortunately I'm in Canada and postage here and back wouldn't be cheap. I could also look at creating a custom controller as I've build a few things like. Cheers, gt@gtpunch.com http://gtpunch.spaces.live.com/
