This is the cheapest place your gonna find CF to IDE adaptors... You can get dual slotted ones with all the fancy stuff for under $20.

Ok, I've looked over eaby, I've done like a dozen and a half searches. They dont have a 44 pin IDE > CF adapter. Laptops use a 44 pin connection not the 40 like in desktops.

yeah, using a seperate 3.5"->2.5" hdd converter would be a pain

Yes, it would, because you'd need a regular HD-mobo cable and a laptop gender changer as well (which I've never once seen, so that'd suck).
I'd say if cheapness is the biggest issue, finding the proper 44-pin header and soldering it onto one of these is probably the best bet *shrug*

Thanks for the link but $45 for an adapter.... ouch.

I ordered one from that site SgtBowHack and I found, so I'll be expecting it in about 2 weeks. Found they have USPS and shipping was only around $3 so a grand total of $23 something.

P.S. Hopefully messing with linux will keep me from craving meat the fridays during lent.

I got the adapter I talked about, but have had troube getting the CF card to work the way I need it. For straters Fdisk that I ran to partition it on my laptop says there are two partition but niether my computer (Xp) nor my dad's (98+) can see them. So until I can get two partions I dont know how I'm going to do the frugal install.

If anyone knows of a good partitioning tool I'm all ears.

http://www.ranish.com/part/ is a partitioning tool I used many times and I love it. A lot. It's freeware too. Partition Magic also is nice.
